After a brief hiatus our unsigned series is back. Producers who have appeared on the series so far have been approached by labels and subsequently had material released by them after we helped shed some light on the new talents. We hope we're able to do the same with the next one in the series, coming from Thodén. Get to know a little about him below:

Hey my names Kris, I'm 20 and a student based in Manchester. Been DJ'ing and producing for a little less than 2 years now. This track is a culmination of all the things I'm into at the moment, namely breaks and some of the higher bpm electronic stuff. Really wanted to capitalise on the euphoric feel that the combination of the synth and breaks provided. Once I got those down it was all about adding to and enhancing the atmosphere, using echoey vocal chops, a 303 and that final synth line that rounds the track off. Was important to create an effective buildup between sections too, gating the synth and filtering the breaks did the trick there. 
I'm still learning the ins and outs of production, haven't been at this very long. Stumbled upon the 'unsigned' series and its perfect for this kind of thing, glad I can use it as a platform for sharing some of what I make.

Hey, I’m Lorenzo. I’m 21, based in Hamilton, Canada. After spending around 6 or 7 years in the realm of hip hop, jazz and funk I released my culminating studio project called “Pursuit” this past December. This encapsulated the work I wanted to have created while on that side of the spectrum. I’ve since shifted gears to focus on deeper grooves and dancefloor ready cuts, which felt long overdue. I was overflowing with ideas for house and techno records. Curiously experimenting with new sounds and dancing on the outer boundaries of my musical tastes has proven quite satisfying creatively.

Something’s Burning is a sort of thick, smoky groove. It started off as a jam—and as jams go I was soon running from the keys, to the mic, then back to the keys. The goal was to pass some of that free-flowing movement on to the listener. The vocals were recorded super casually, but when all of the pieces came together, their laid back nature relaxed the groove a little bit. It felt fun.

Hey, Monolithic here. I’m originally from Japan but currently based in New York. I’ve been producing and DJing lo-fi house since around 2017 but have been making music all my life. My sound is always changing but there’s consistently an element of haziness and dreaminess in my productions. And a few favorite elements come back again and again: subby 808s kicks, distorted breakbeats, fat chorusey pads, squelchy acid basslines, etc.

A few weeks ago, an Italian producer by the name Jacopo Sb sent me “Prova 1.” He described “Prova 1” as a melancholic reflection of his experiences over the past few months. 

I was drawn to the flavor of the pads, and the steady flow of the percussive elements that he’d laid out. This 140bpm flip of “Prova 1” builds on that foundation with breakbeats, subs, and Juno-60 arps. The process of remixing this track was pure catharsis for me; I was dancing in my apartment as if I hadn’t been in quarantine for five weeks.

“Prova 1” will be released on May 8th on Platonic Solids Inc., a small imprint I launched this year as a home for my self-releases, remixes, and collaborations.

Get to know a little about him below:

Hey, I’m Darcy Khalid.

I’ve been producing music for about five years and DJing and playing piano for a little longer. Since I moved to Melbourne in 2016, I’ve been producing music with at least the vague intention to release it publicly. I wanted to wait until I felt I had a sound that was my own, and I guess that time has come.

My Unsigned track is from my debut EP. The record features three quite different tracks, including elements of ambience, techno, drum & bass – even hints of jazz on the A1. Hakone Schoolyard is the A2, and if someone called it a broken beat ambient techno jam, I wouldn’t call them crazy.

It evolved three times over about 18 months. I made a version, got bored of it, left it alone, then repeated that process several months later. What you hear now is take three. I can be a bit ambitious with my compositions, so they’re often long and multi-sectioned. My favourite songs will change a lot, weaving between atmospheres, energy levels and tempos, often seamlessly, but occasionally with bold abruption. I tried to do both here. I hope it worked.

I'm Stones Taro, DJ / producer, based in Kyoto, Japan.
I began my career in 2014 and has been active in the local Kyoto scene, with some of the best releases from around the world, mainly in the UK. I'm mainly inspired by 90s NY House, UKG and jungle. Blue Coast is a raw house track, bringing you a nostalgic feeling. A main arpeggio phrase produces a hypnotic mood, and rough breakbeat that makes you high.
