‘In The Constant Noise’ was recorded outside very late at night using a small hand-held recorder. On each recorded layer the sounds of wind, rustling leaves and other natural reverberations can be heard in the background. By emphasising and celebrating these imperfections, the idea of silence in a world where high noise levels are the norm is explored. The result is a set of songs that, whilst each telling their own story, are unified in a melancholic lament for the sounds that have been lost in the constant noise.

Travel Where The Moon Pulls

This piece is dedicated to Otto and Elsa, the incredibly talented musicians in my family that shaped the road I walk on.

Otto was my grandpa (from my mom’s side), and Elsa, his sister, is my great-aunt. My grandpa only saw me play piano once, during a classical music recital when I was around twelve years old. Elsa, on the other hand, is the person that guided me as a pianist and composer until the day I left Peru. Otto was a natural genius that played for diverse orchestras and bands, from salsa to jazz, and released various amazing records. My great-aunt is a talented multidisciplinary artist, classically-trained pianist, and the most inspiring teacher I have ever had. They have completely different styles, personalities, and life stories,  but there is a piece that I know both of them love: La Comparsa by Ernesto Lecuona. I love it, too, and hope to learn how to play it one day. Until then, this is my gift to them.

This song, which I wrote with my dear friend @Lo-fang, is dedicated to Seraphina, my partner, with whom I have learned to love selflessly. She is a soft ray of sun during a spring afternoon, a foggy autumn morning, my moon and ocean, my home.

About this precious collaboration with Lo-Fang: Our paths crossed in Valencia, Spain, a few years ago, when the world was a bit different. I remember with clarity the day I visited his studio to improvise together. It was such a beautiful experience that it only felt natural to consider collaborating at some point. One day, while working on my new album, I wrote a piece that I felt was asking for something different. So, I sent it to him. He wrote the lyrics, sang them, and played violoncello too, taking the song to a whole new dimension.

Music has the potential to take you to places that are seemingly more profound, more subtle and more beautiful than anything that can be expressed simply with words and language. As a teenager i remember vividly the experience of discovering the music of bands Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky and Sigur Ros. It sparked in me a desire to create my own music. The idea that I could potentially write something on my guitar that was expressing things beyond my own understanding of the world was, and still is, incredibly exciting.

Throughout the whole album writing process for ‘Yes, Sleep Well Death’ i found myself reconnecting with that initial sense of excitement i felt when first exploring writing and recording my own music as a teenager. Dive was for me the track that best expressed this, and for is is the centrepiece of the whole record.

Listening to Peruvian pianist and composer Sergio Díaz De Rojas feels like waking up with soft sunlight on your face. His songs are raw and soft, like terracotta and honey, and flow through the world like a tranquil river. 

With over twenty million streams worldwide, several concerts around Europe and South America, and collaborations with record labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, 7K!, and LEITER Verlag, Sergio’s second full-length album Muerte en una tarde de verano was released on the 10th of March, 2023, via Nettwerk Music Group. The release was accompanied by a forty-minute-long film, two handcrafted vinyl editions, an exclusive CD edition for Japan, a collaboration with American singer-songwriter Lo-Fang, and a European release tour.
