Restless and pensive, looking out from a balcony at an unlit street enveloped in complete silence, Sergio found himself drowning in the hollow night, and in an attempt to combat the loneliness, started composing. “I guess this melody is what I would tell the moon if I could talk to her.”

As is custom for Sergio’s pieces, The Moon Song has an instant sense of nostalgic tenderness — it is a song about sleepless nights, glasses of wine, and unread books next to an unmade bed. Written during that part of the night in which everyone else is sleeping, the piece is an intimate affair; a gentle and at times heavy left hand is contrasted by a trickling, tethering right, playing with altering intensity but immaculate emotion. There’s a tense determination lingering beneath every note, an unanswered question floating in the air, only to be left hanging, as the piece drifts into the comfort of the decision to simply give up for now, and try again tomorrow.

The Moon Song releases on the 14th of May, featuring artwork by French artist Inès Panizzi.

This is another "fan art" work for another of my favorite author's book characters. This song was inspired by Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives books. 

**SPOILER ALERT**

This song is specifically inspired by the character Syl. Syl is a spren. In the world of Roshar, spren live in everything. Syl is originally thought to be windspren, mindless and flighty. But as the book develops, Syl changes and matures. We learn that Syl is actually honorspren--a spren hitherto unheard of or at least long forgotten. This piece of music develops as such. It begins more flighty and dainty, then grows into a more mature and grand orchestral piece.

He comes sitting on a donkey. He’s greeted like a king. „Hosanna!“ they shout.
Knowing about what is going to happen to him, he blazes his trail like a gentle lamb that is going to be slaughted. I’m so moved by his finality, by his unending, uncomprimising love, even for those who are gonna call „Take him away, take him away, crucify him!“. That’s the most disturbing, self-sacrificing yet truthful love that I’ve ever experienced. 

The oppositenes that I see within the shouts and calls of the people is also inside of me. I can’t deny that. But his love is bigger than all hate of the world. This is a good message. It’s the most wonderful message I’ve ever heard.

Sergio Díaz De Rojas (b. 1994) is a pianist, composer and sound designer from Lima, Peru. He now lives in the quiet landscapes of northern Germany, crafting his work in a small studio tucked among trees and drifting birdsong.
