BPitch’s second collection of We Are Not Alone compilations closes out with part six, another eclectic all-star selection of techno productions. The 36-track compilation landing via @bpitch-control is split into three parts, each consisting of 12 cuts dedicated to the infamous We Are Not Alone event series and the best of underground techno talent.

For this instalment of the series, Allien collaborates with esteemed director and photographer Stini Roehrs for the multidisciplinary project 'AFTER DARK – Emotional States of Techno', consisting of a virtual rave film, book and exhibition produced by AKKURAT Studios, and the We Are Not Alone VA, which is to be released physically and digitally via BPitch.

Following a string of unavoidable releases in only the past two years with unprecedented international support, Brussels’ own Altinbas returns to Token with a second release entitled ‘Spirit Moves’. Recognisably full-bodied tracks, riddled with classic techniques yet designed for the modern dancefloor, Altinbas offers intention in the age of impulsivity.  

‘Presence’ opens the EP, easing the listener into what has become Altinbas’s marque de fabrique. A steady, round low-end eggs us on to zip through vast celestial bodies, with euphoric inclines and cloudy descents. Traveling through ‘Presence’ is fluid if anything, establishing an introduction of boundless dimension to a record made with precision. Following this opening, Altinbas re-focuses his attention to centric rhythm. Bold, toned percussion makes for an infectious groove, instrumental in the most efficient way possible. Swapping drum machine sequences as an arrangement, the Belgian producer presses on to the second side of his project with the title track ‘Spirit Moves’. Taking yet another turn, the third part of the EP focuses on playful synth work with raspy hi hats; a seemingly randomized arpeggio runs along a head-bobbing rhythm, scattering melody for tension. Having departed from depth in the middle of the project, Altinbas comes full circle for the last chapter, ‘Blue Lace’. A return to stabby dub-like synths spread out in the stereo image make for a club record reminiscent of German classics. Mixing it with an eager tempo and present drums over a glossy ambience, Altinbas closes his second solo contribution to Token records by reaffirming the value of his sonic identity.

From Germany the mighty Ron Flatter joins the Motek family with his EP 'Youmai / No2'. Steeped in groove and drive ‘Youmai' is a perfect peak time floor thriller. Warm pad pulses and bass pushes weave their way across the arrangement whilst a strong synth lead and high flourishing effects dance around, creating strong and unexpected focal points. ‘No2’ is a raw sounding, full on piece of dance music. Live percussive textures add serious depth to the production adding to the driving, gritty bass pad and relentless hi-hat patterns. Remixing this release we welcome back the fantastic Namito & Stevie R, and from Copenhagen rising stars Leman & Dieckmann. Namito & Stevie R have brought their style to ‘Youmai’, adding a darkness and relentless feel to the track. Constant builds in arrangement drive the track on, all based around the constant vocal loop. The remix is finished with trippy lead synths elaborating and rising on top of the core track foundation. Leman & Dieckmann have given their take to ‘No2’. A spacious, reverb filled track that carries serious weight. The duo have made their version slower in feel than the other tracks on this release with subtle groove interplay between the percussion and synth parts, drawing you into their musical vision.

2016 was a standout year for Alan Fitzpatrick, with the Drumcode stalwart racing out of the gates in spectacular fashion with the release of his fabric 87 mix. A substantial amount of high profile shows followed, including appearing at the inaugural Junction 2 festival and closing the car park to a packed-to-the-rafters-crowd at Drumcode Halloween. He returns to Drumcode with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, marking his first appearance on the label since late 2016 when he remixed Moby’s seminal ‘Porcelain’.

The release opens with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, a track which caused a Twitter meltdown on Alan’s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. Loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. It’s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. ‘Wait A Second’ feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of Adam Beyer’s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on Drumcode Radio. This rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. Alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an LTJ Bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the M25. The release closes with ‘Trance, Init?’; A homage to Alan’s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a DJ, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. The breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.
