A broad, rocky escarpment splits the Sonoran Desert from the Colorado Plateau, dividing Arizona and western New Mexico along a northwest to southeast line.  This escarpment, known as the Mogollon Rim, contains one of the largest contiguous Ponderosa Pine stands in the world.  A warming climate has meant more frequent droughts in this part of the world, which has resulted in several massive wildfires that have collectively burned more than 1 million acres of pine and fir woodlands.  Many of these forest stands were killed; some are being replaced by aspen, and some will likely start to become shrub lands.  We are seeing a big change in this forest.
In June of last year, I camped out in a small patch of surviving pine and fir, surrounded by the skeletons of dead trees and thickets of 4-year-old aspens.  I was near a large beautiful meadow that attracted elk and coyotes in the evenings.  The recording, Vanishing Forest, is a dawn recording of hermit thrush, American robins, hairy woodpeckers, several warblers, chickadees, nuthatches and red squirrels.  Even in this area of rapidly changing habitats, wildlife finds a way to survive.

Union Cafe and Concert Program were released in 1994 and 1995 by Simon Jeffes, on his label Zopf Records. Simon himself saw them as the last part of the 'Octave' of Penguin Cafe Orchestra recordings.

As part of the ongoing curation of the Penguin cafe story, they were gently re-mastered by Simon's son Arthur Jeffes, and rereleased in 2011 along with 'Piano Music' a posthumous album of Simon's piano pieces.

Brad Rau received a scholarship to attend New England Conservatory (NEC), and received a Master’s degree in 2015 with academic honors. At NEC, he studied classical guitar under Eliot Fisk who was the last pupil of Andres Segovia. Brad has performed in countless masterclasses with instructors including; Sharon Isbin, and Andrew York both Grammy award winning guitarists. Brad’s personal learning methods have enabled him to memorizing over 8 hours of the most difficult repertoire for the classical guitar. Brad was a semi-finalist in the International Texas Guitar Competition of 2008.  Brad currently studies under Grammy awarding winnings guitarist Jason Vieaux. Brad has been performing music for over 20 years all over Boston, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, as a classical guitarist, rock guitarist, and rock drummer.  Brad currently teaching music lessons at Taylor’s Music in West Chester, and performs every Friday at the Brandywine Distillery.  Brad has mentored hundreds of students of all ages, styles and levels. Many of Brad’s students have gone on to develop their own music careers and teaching studios.

Brad’s unique teaching style combines music, physics, philosophy and humor, making him a well-rounded instructor for a variety of students.
