If there’s something I should know.

The world is wet with answers
I don’t know how to phrase.

Near the stack of books you’d never start.

It warms the skin, but skips the heart.

The days repeat in lowercase.

Like trying to unwrite the ground.

He smiled when he promised,
Didn’t blink when he lied.
We stood at the river.
He asked if I could swim.
I said I could carry him —
And sing out a sailor’s hymn.

He didn’t thank me.
He didn’t ask.
He just climbed on
Like I was built
To last.

“It’s in my nature,”
That’s all he said.
While the water closed over
What could’ve been instead.
It’s in my nature —
No plea, no shame.
He left me sinking
With his name in my throat.

He told me he was different.
He told me he was cold.
He said it like a warning
But wrapped it in gold.
He was quiet halfway through,
Held on just right —
Then leaned to my ear
And killed us both that night.

He didn’t flinch.
He didn’t pause.
He just let go
Without ever
Letting on.

“It’s in my nature,”
That’s what he said.
No hint of regret,
No tilt of his head.

The current was slower
Than I thought it would be.
He watched the sky
As he dragged me beneath.

I squint at their hands.
