Music Is My Sanctuary is excited to share the cinematic, post-rock infused intensity of Waldo’s Gift’s “Bergson”. Taken from forthcoming compilation, "New Horizons; A Bristol Jazz Sound", which provides and excellent and much needed overview of Bristol overlooked but vibrant jazz scene.

Bristolian promoters Worm Disco Club have been championing South-Western talent since their inception in 2014. Having collaborated with Glastonbury Festival on their notorious ‘Wormhole’ stage and hosted the likes of The Comet Is Coming, The Heliocentrics and The Mauskovic Dance Band at their regular club night, the name has become synonymous with quality groove laden goodness, percussive madness, jazz, psych and beyond.

Now proudly presenting their label Worm Discs, the collective recruit some of Bristol’s most notable emerging talent for an exploration into the new wave of Jazz emanating from the city for their debut outing 'New Horizons : A Bristol Jazz Sound' .  An album which channels the seismic energy of the sonically rich landscape into 11 progressive, psychedelic, impeccably crafted tracks.

The Worm Discs team explain: “The idea for this record began back in 2019. We had been curating parties in Bristol featuring jazz acts from around the UK for several years and had just hosted “The Wormhole” at Glastonbury Festival, featuring an all-star line-up from the scene. Having always felt that Bristol’s exciting jazz scene deserved to be heard, the idea for a label was born. We wanted to showcase some individual creativity and open up a space to try something different.”

From the cinematic, post-rock infused intensity of Waldo’s Gift’s “Bergson” to the zen-like, floating melodies of Ishamel Ensemble’s rework of Snazzback’s “Flump” and the angular textures of Run Logan Run’s epic “A Sea Of Apathy And Indifference” - this record is true odyssey from start to finish, for those who really want take a trip down the Wormhole.

Exclusive Premiere: Waldo's Gift "Bergson" (Forthcoming on Worm Discs)

Melbourne’s 30/70 join forces with London and Australia’s South East elite beat-makers to deliver ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ on Rhythm Section International.

After the fruits of 2018’s luminous and lifted ‘Elevations’ iteration, we were keen to see how the rich, soulful and instrumental layers of last Summer’s ‘Fluid Motion’ LP could be reimagined by some of the key players in our mutual musical scenes. So, we invited a selection of our nearest and dearest to create their take on the track from the record that spoke to them most.

The ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ EP expands the album’s effortless eclecticism but offers energies more suited to the dancefloor that we’re missing oh so much. The first single comes from fellow label affiliates SAUL who kick things off with a bouncy breaks flip of N.Y.P., transforming it’s tender tones into a bright and lively party starter. It’s followed up by Peckham’s hazy house producers, Athlete Whippet, who inject ’Tempted’ with foot-stomping percussion and a moody electronic groove. We then move to the Southern Hemisphere with Close Counters, who serve up an ‘Impermanence’ rework that journeys from sweaty bruk stylings to a sunny club chug. Setwun amps up the heat of Allysha’s pacey lyrical performance in title track ‘Fluid Motion' with squelchy low-swinging synths, showcasing his signature fusion of dance and funk. From Sydney’s self-proclaimed ‘Soulstranaut’ to “the Dilla of Deptford” (STW), Maxwell Owin chops up ‘Tempted’ with a vigorous chasing tempo, twinkling glitches, a plunging bassy breakdown and seductive whispers to propel his gritty-city sonic aesthetic into a far-flung atmospheric nebula.

The Fluid Motion remix project sees the musical worlds of SE16 and Melbourne meet once again, proving it to be an alliance that just keeps on giving.

"Fernweh" is about reminiscing the places you visited and are yet to explore. It started out as a simple chord progression that was stuck in Cheri Moya's  head and expanded into this modal meditative instrumental piece.

About the project

'Black Gravity' refers to the Herbie Hancock and A Guy Called Gerald collaboration from 2001. According to DTM Funk, this track is "the perfect example of two different grooves coming together in perfect harmony". The result shows that groovy soul and alternative electronica go hand in hand. This powerful fusion of influences gave rise to a monthly show on Brussels' online station Kiosk Radio. A few months later, Black Gravity Rhythms now becomes a compilation series around an ever-evolving sound that winks to the past while firmly looking towards the future. 

In each new volume of the series, DTM Funk will collaborate with another befriended DJ, assembling a varied collection of productions representing the sound of the guest selector. For the first edition, we look to AliA, probably Belgium's most skilled sound digger of her generation. Still only 21-year-old, she is known for her eclectic style, impeccable skills and versatile selection that ranges from broken beats to bossa nova and from alternative techno to off-beat belters.
