“Baltimore’s Best Kept Secret” DJ Eric Hype A.K.A. Eric J. Gunther has been rocking the decks for over 10 years and has always had a keen interest in a lot of different genres of music. Eric grew up in a profoundly musical household; his father was a local Baltimore musician playing Classic Rock from the 60’s and 70’s. His mother listen to a lot of Motown, Soul music and Classic Rock on the radio while cleaning their house in Highlandtown, a diverse town in South East Baltimore. As a young child Eric played the drums in various school bands while attending Elementary & Middle school. In 1990 Eric started watching Yo! MTV Raps on Music Television (MTV) his first time discovering Hip-Hop, its culture & the elements of Hip-Hop culture. Shortly after Eric would put down his drumsticks & ask for a boom box, microphone, spray paint & some turntables. 

Eric is not just a whiz behind the decks, In 2001 after graduating from Francis Scott Key High School at age 19 he joined the USAF. At his first duty station Pope AFB/Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC he produced 2 tracks for a local Hip Hop group “Fayetteville Finest” which later aired & won on WZFX 99.1 “Local Rap Attack Hour”. In 2005 Eric PCS’d to Hickman AFB, Hawaii, where he met and shared the decks with Barry Cary A.K.A. DJ B from Portsmith, VA. The two quickly become well known DJ names around Honolulu, Hawaii as the duo was behind some of the local areas best house parties, club & bars. DJ B would soon PCS to another base & Eric would go on and start opening for major celebrities; the likes of Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson, Joe Torrey, Jabba Wockees, Third Eye Blind & lots more. In 2010 Eric would leave Hawaii, PCS to Alamogordo, NM and DJ’d for a local DJ company called Desert DJ’s where he would DJ weddings, festivals, clubs & bars. After 10 years Eric separated from the USAF to pursue his love & career in DJing and moved back to his hometown of Baltimore, MD.  Eric is currently DJing at local Baltimore clubs, bars and radio stations such as Morgan States WEAA 88.9FM and X1051.com. 

DJ Eric Hype’s musical style reflects influences from all over the world. He is not limited to one genre of music; instead Eric combines all genres of music together to develop his own signature diverse DJing style. Eric Hype’s DJing style includes multiple genres of music, self-produced remixes, turntablism and mash-ups. Bottom line is no matter where DJ Eric Hype spins at he’s a proven party rocker & entertainer.
