Compression Music is a full concert piece which deepens the very idea of sound. The piece raises the question of how the omnipresent current aesthetics of compressed sound in modern music (characterised by homogenising dynamics and the construction of a compact sound) can meet a classical music criteria based on opposing principles such as realistic acoustics, natural instrument colours and wide dynamic ranges.

The text of the piece is a reconstruction of a multitude of fragments of lyrics of pop songs that I liked when I was younger

Compression music es una pieza-concierto que plantea cómo la omnipresente estética actual de sonido comprimido, caracterizada por homogeneizar las dinámicas y construir un sonido compacto se enfrenta a un criterio y tradición clásicos basados en principios de acústicas realistas, timbres naturales y amplios rangos dinámicos.

El texto de la pieza es una reconstrucción de multitud de fragmentos de letras de canciones de música pop que me gustaban cuando era más joven.

El proyecto cuenta con el soporte de la Fundación BBVA

Well we are a little rusty... been the longest time since Dani and I simply did some improvisation.. so here is a rough few minutes recorded even rougher the other night after a session at the wonderful Hobart artspace 'Proofspace' where we have been fortunate to use as we write a new score for the beautiful and poignant silent movie " The Smiling Madame Beudet"... With luck we will get to perform the movie at sometime in the future! Felt great just to make some shit up for the first time in ages : )
