For the 74th release we have a bit of a family affair and here is the story why.
Back in 1999 Dhan Solo & Steve Tempo started a label called Free For A Girl Recordings which released their own music as the duo Varanassi.
Bobalino's first ever vinyl release was on Free For A Girl Recordings which was a remix of Mark Saunders track Strong with his band Axcess.
Dhan Solo later on joined forces with Bobalino to form the Breakbeat duo Curl & Dean.
Bobalino then started the label Break Wind Productions which is now releasing the 1st ever solo Curl release under the pseudonym Dhan Solo.
On this 4 track EP you will experience an assortment of styles, vibes & genres.
Love That is sonorous joyous euphoric broken beat banger with a celestial breakdown to send you bouncing to utopia and beyond.
On the remix Steve Tempo bumps us along with this deep bass low-slung proggy chugger with shimmering synths & hypnotic tones.
Working Saturday takes us on some glorious sunshine vibes with nostalgic pads and pianos flowing over a shuffling groove.

For our 66th release, iBreaks is excited to bring you another killer double header single from Spanish breaks don Alejandro Rojo, aka Colombo, following on from his Station 21 album at the end of 2013.

The late-90s nuskool flavoured “Hankering” is up first, with a bongo and Spanish guitar-laden intro that soon launches headlong into driving breaks, robotic synths and throbbing low-end.  The breakdown and drop make way for an unexpected bass key change, which manages to give things a lift, while still remaining on the deeper end of breaks.  One for the 4am crew!

Bringing up the rear is “Buddhism” which starts with a more determined, pounding kick and snappy snare.  More robotic synth work, complemented by Gregorian-esque mangled vocals lay the foundations for more squelchy acidic sounds that build on top as the track progresses.  Perfect sounds for a mid-set vibe change or closer tune.

We’re excited to bring you another killer two track release from a man who’s at the top of his game right now - Colombo.

“Blasted” sets the pace here with crisp beats and a deep bassline which move nicely alongside the vocodered vocal line and spoken word section.  There’s an eerie feel throughout this one, especially at the halfway point where some heavier synth work and breakbeats give us some mid-section madness.

Bringing up the rear is “Retromus” which raises the energy level with a bouncier feel to the beats, an eastern-flavoured hook, and some great cut up vocals.  This is Colombo in party mode, and definitely one for peak time sets.

iBreaks 69 comes from new signing Sunsha.  Hailing from Estonia, Alex has been producing since 2005, and has taken his time honing his sound and creating a style that’s Progressive and Acidic with an Electro vibe too.

“Wild Sensation” leads the way on this two track release, starting proceedings with a tasty kick, snare and hat combo backed by a mid-range electro synth line before dropping into a distorted chord sequence.  This builds the tension nicely for what drops next - some crazy razor-sharp rhythmic synth work that plays perfectly off the beats.  As this one progresses we get a brand new mid-way section that raises the energy - and acid levels!

Showing the more progressive side of Sunsha is “Check This Out” which focusses much more on melody with complementing synth lines working together to create a lush soundscape over the crisp beats.  A low end rolling bassline works some magic in the bottom end leaving the synths to do their thing - creating a building vibe throughout.  Again we get a great middle section that raises the track up a notch.  Sunsha is a name to watch!

Ed Steele is a UK based DJ and promoter having worked with Essential Festival, Ministry of Sound and Pressure FM. Ed Steele subsequently joined the ‘Fresh Out The Box’ team alongside AUX favourite Kostas G. The now infamous club night celebrates its10th Birthday this year and has played host to a huge array of acts including D Ramirez, Alex Smoke, Plump DJs, Kraty Kuts, Zinc, and Ms Dynamite.

Ed took over the dance music stages at Truck Festival in Oxfordshire for 8 years and became part of the Gottwood Festival where he and Kostas G current;ly hold the record for the longest DJ set which stands at a whopping 8.5 hours! A true veteran of the UK circuit , Ed has played alongside acts including Altern-8, James Holden, Andrew Weatherall and Alter Ego.

Ed makes his production debut on AUX with his 1st EP ‘7 Hours After’ which includes 2 beautifully crafted slices of Deep, Techy, house. Lush, tripped out melodies combine with chunky percussion and soulful bass grooves. Music for the head as much as the dancefloor.  

Ed’s smooth originals are backed up by 2 top remixes.  1st of which come from current Breaks heavyweights Lee Coombs and Kostas G who are just about to drop a brand new album. Their remix take a ravey departure from the original, with an upbeat party vibe, funky breaks and fat, analogue leads.

Czech based DJ and producer Marek Hajek AKA Grove, has recently been making big waves on the international Breaks scene with his debut album on Scarcity and subsequent singles on iBreaks and Deep Garnet all being received with critical acclaim.
Grove’s remix is a deep, edgy, breakbeat driven take on the original. With rolling rhythms, glitched bass and soaring atmospherics.  Expect big things from this talented up and coming producer.

A Few Words From Ground Level Records : 

A dynamite EP here from two producers at the top of their game - Rebel Sketchy and Kwerk present Sketchwerk. Both producers are making waves in the breaks scene and beyond, so when it was suggested that a collaboration was on the cards we became very very excited here at Ground Level, and we weren't disappointed.

The track in question is Everywhere I Go, a slab of peak time funky breakbeat that gives a nod to the past coupled with a dollop of future bass goodness. Superfunky percussive beats unpinned by a soaring bassline give way to wah-wah guitar and vocal snippets and the glitchiest of breakdowns - this one willl ignite the dancefoor!

Not content with just unleashing this monster both Kwerk and Rebel Sketchy have contributed an individually produced track to this collection. Kwerk brings us the disco-fused technoid funk of 'Are You?', and Rebel Sketchy updates what was originally a drum & bass track from his debut album, Goodbye Gravity, into a 130BPM funky breaks bomb, matching the feel of the other tracks and completing this incendiary package.

At a time when there's a lot of generic by numbers breakbeat out there this EP provides the antidote. Musical, funk led body music, created with love and meticulously crafted to provide a feel good pack that's a rare thing these days.

'Sensations' - Chill Trap Mix

We're back with the boys from Latvia for our 73rd iBreaks release. Under This give us a double A-side showing two different sides of their production stylings.

"Let Yourself Go" leads the way, and there's no messing about - it's straight in with a big rolling breakbeat, a throbbing low end bassline, and a pulsing, growling, metallic synth that really sets the tone of what to expect. A switch up in the bassline after the halfway point raises the energy and makes this one pure peak time.

In stark contrast, the Under This boys flex their deeper, groovier muscles on "Attraction" which is built around a Nile Rodgers flavoured guitar riff over speaker busting beats and bass. The addition of a female vocal lifts the vibe, rounding off this disco breaks tune to a tee.
