Rhymes With Opera is an ensemble based in Baltimore, MD and New York, NY, and is dedicated to commissioning and producing new opera.

Erik Spangler (a.k.a. DJ Dubble8) is a composer and electronic musician working within a wide range of listening environments. As a turntablist and controllerist DJ, Spangler performs live remixes of his own compositions along with found-sound improvisations, through solo performances or in an ensemble context. His compositions have been performed across the United States and internationally from Canada to China, by groups including the Atlantic Brass Quintet, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and International Contemporary Ensemble. Along with producer Wendel Patrick, Dubble8 is co-founder of Baltimore Boom Bap Society, a forum for improvised and experimental hip hop in collaboration with musicians from diverse genres.

TAO - Triangle Afrobeat Orchestra, led by bassist/composer Vattel Cherry, is an effort to wake up consciousness, bring people together, interpret, explain, denounce, keep record, and provoke changes through music.  TAO takes its inspiration from Afrobeat creators Fela Kuti, pianist/singer Nina Simone, and activist/revolutionary Fred Hampton.

Club Queen, TT The Artist creates a well-blended sound of Baltimore club, hip hop, pop and dance music. On the rise to the world music platform, she has been supported by influential djs and producers in the dance industry such as Diplo, AC Slater, Anna Lunoe, Baauer, Gladiator Sinden and more! 

There are no limits to her vibrant, party-starting, cross between melodies and provocative raps. Eyes set on new horizons, TT The Artist plans to paint a new spectrum of colors to the music scene through her women focused record label Club Queen Records. Tt’s vibrant, party starting, fusion of melodies and fiery raps are sure to paint a new spectrum of color to the music industry.

Courtney Bryan is “a pianist and composer of panoramic interests” (New York Times). Her music is in conversation with various musical genres, including jazz and other types of experimental music, as well as traditional gospel, spirituals, and hymns. Bryan has academic degrees from Oberlin Conservatory (BM), Rutgers University (MM), and Columbia University (DMA) with advisor George Lewis, and completed postdoctoral studies in the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. Bryan is currently an Assistant Professor of Music in the Newcomb Department of Music at Tulane University, the Mary Carr Patton Composer-in-Residence with the Jacksonville Symphony, a 2019-20 recipient of the Samuel Barber Rome Prize, and 2020 United States Artists Fellow. She was the 2018 music recipient of the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts. Bryan’s work has been presented in a wide range of venues, and she has two recordings, Quest for Freedom and This Little Light of Mine.

airborne extended was founded in 2013 and is a Quartett for contemporary music consisting of the instruments harp, harpsichord/keyboard, flutes, recorders/Paetzoldflutes, with and without electronics and performance. The unusual combination of these instruments gives airborne extended the possibility to create a wide range of new sounds and colours that inspires both composers and the public all over the world.

PAMELA Z is a San Francisco-based composer/performer and media artist who works primarily with voice, live electronic processing, sampling technology, and video. A pioneer of live digital looping techniques, she creates solo works combining experimental extended vocal techniques, operatic bel canto, found objects, text, digital processing, and MIDI controllers that allow her to manipulate sound with physical gestures. In addition to her solo work, she has been commissioned to compose scores for dance, theatre, film, and new music chamber ensembles including Kronos Quartet and the Bang on a Can Allstars. Her large-scale multi-media works have been presented at venues including Theater Artaud and ODC in SanFrancisco, and The Kitchen in New York, and her media works have been presented in exhibitions at the Whitney Museum (NY) , the Diözesanmuseum (Cologne), and the Krannert Art Museum (IL). Her multi-media opera Wunderkabinet – inspired by the Museum of Jurassic Technology (co-composed with Matthew Brubeck) has been presented at The LAB Gallery (San Francisco), REDCAT (Disney Hall, Los Angeles), and Open Ears Festival, Toronto. Pamela Z has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan. She has performed in numerous festivals including Bang on a Can at Lincoln Center (New York), Interlink (Japan), Other Minds (San Francisco), La Biennale di Venezia (Italy), and Pina Bausch Tanztheater Festival (Wuppertal, Germany). She is the recipient of numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Creative Capital Fund, the CalArts Alpert Award in the Arts, The MAP Fund, the ASCAP Music Award, an Ars Electronica honorable mention, and the NEA and Japan/US Friendship Commission Fellowship.
