After School Activities is an artist-led weekly forum for experimental and improvisational music-making.  Every Wednesday, we follow a new structure for interaction and collaboration.  All songs are improvised from scratch or from pre-created elements brought for group exploration.

Alaina Ferris is an interdisciplinary composer, poet, and performer who specializes in choral works, opera, and contemporary theater. Her music is inspired by a love of Renaissance chorales, her former work as a music therapist, and video game soundtracks. She is one half of the indie-folk group, Physical Kids.

Star the Moonlight is a NYC-based group lead by composer, synthesist, and bass clarinetist Maximillian Zooi. The band's unique sound comes from the collaboration of Hattie Simon on vocals, Andrew Freedman on keys, James Quinlan on bass, and Phil McNeal on drums. Star the Moonlight will take you to a sonic universe of “Future-Strauss Hop” as they integrate lush harmonies of late 19th century Romantic music, powerful melodies of great songwriting, and heavy rhythms of interlocking grooves. These all mix with the quick spark of interplay from the band to make music that you've never heard but that you can't forget.
