We have had another magic invite from Mamoru, and Jamie and I have had a lot of fun working with him on this fab classic. It came together quite quickly, as we all felt a lot of empathy with the song and Mamoru's arrangement.
When I finished the vocals, I realised I had sung "take a chance" instead of "shake a hand" on the last line of the second verse..lol.. we left it in!

Brillman x Tape Lab back at it again, this time with some small changes, just a few minor edits, nothing big, just a — microTWEAK. Building on an initial and explosive creative clash. Tape Lab & Brillman have delivered another melodic, composed and unexpected 2nd collaboration piece. 

Transferred at the speed of light (115bpm) across the Atlantic Ocean. Initial melodies were recorded via the Yamaha RM1X with space/reverb added from the Korg Kaos DJ Pad. Basslines were recorded on the Moog Sub37. Brillman remixed with additional drums/synths/sounds including the brilliant microFREAK. But, ultimately, the star of the show is Brillman’s expertly composed and eclectic sonic palette and, definitely, skills as a mixer and master-er.

Fearlessly, new sounds echo in and out, ricocheting off of other beats and bloops, a confetti of sounds raining down (text by Tape Lab).

"Ember" is an electroacoustic composition that serves as a sonic portrait of a profoundly inspiring period in my life. This piece reflects my time studying at the Gotland School of Composition in Visby in my early twenties. One of the most breathtaking places in Gotland is Högklint, a cliff reaching 48 meters above sea level located just south of Visby, offering a view of the Baltic Sea to the west and Visby to the northeast. Inspired by the image of this place, I created this piece. Through this composition, I hope to convey the deep connection I felt to both the place and a moment in time.

The one trying to defend itself is a church organ, alone, without its titular organist. It fights by trying to express by itself, with the air it has left from the depths of its many windchests and pipes, from the depths of its entrails. The organ is alive, as are all instruments, of course... But now he's afraid, he attempts to call for help as fire threatens under the cathedral's vaults. He's afraid of dying.

It is April 15, 2019. The fire will spread, destroying the spire and the entire roof covering the nave, choir and transept. But the organ will be saved.

Completely dismantled, and cleaned of smoke dust, "the king of instruments" would play again 5 years later, this time with his organist friend. He witnessed the biggest disaster to hit the cathedral since it was built. He is the miraculous witness of Notre-Dame.

Brillman has been an electronic online musician during the last 20 years using many different names: Brillman, Controlfreak, freakcontrol, Red Karma, Atmosphere, Zero Loop, Pan64, Randomcontrol, geometric delay and Superfreak! Brillman mainly creates original sounds from hardware synths but also uses guitar, samplers, vocals or even poetry. He primarily utilizes a 4 to the floor approach. The aesthetics behind the music is about finding a balance between minimalism vs. depth & improvisation vs. programmed.
