A Crystal River Florida based Unsigned artist; Brotha Mic was born Michael Horner. Brotha Mic was introduced to the hip-hop lifestyle during his later elementary school years. He remembers listening to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” single on repeat for months on end, dressing in the biggest clothes he could find, standing in front of a hallway mirror with $3.00 in his hand pretending to take pictures for his imaginary album cover. He grew up in a single-parent household with his younger sister and mother. He remembers there being many times where his grandparents would let them move in until his mother could save enough money to find another apartment. Growing up without a father, Brotha Mic would look up to the older kids in the neighborhood, and in that era everyone he knew listened to Hip-Hop.
 
Struggling to find his way through life was a new normal for Brotha Mic, whether it be from constantly moving to different cities and being labeled as an outcast, or the string of abusive relationships his family endured. This instability eventually drove him and his sister to self-medicating as well as trying to fit in with other troubled teens. The Hip-Hop drug culture became a huge part of their lives and eventually led them into prescription pain pills, addiction, and eventually heroin. After years of drugs destroying their family, Brotha Mic and his sister became homeless and resorted to selling the same drugs that ruined their lives. After a string of overdoses and jail time, Brotha Mic decided that it was time to change his life getting a full-time job but his faith waivered as he ended up relapsing. After watching his best friend overdose from the bag, he sold him. he quit cold turkey and left Cleveland to seek help from a rehab center in southern Florida. His grandparents ended up moving to Crystal River years prior and yet again took him in and save his life. From then on Brotha Mic took to the Microphone to tell his story in the hopes that one day his story could help save someone else.
 
Brotha Mic just released his first single “Perfect” and is spreading a message of self-love during the Covid-19 pandemic while inspiring former and current drug addicts to change their lives for the better. Pairing new age guitar melodies and classic 60’s vibes with deep, heartfelt lyrics and addicting flows sets him apart from the rest of the hip-hop community in a positive way. This single sets the tone for the rest of his concept album “Highs & Lows” by sharing his stories of hard times, heartache, and the loss of friends and family fighting depression and drug addiction.

I have been passionately creating music for a considerable amount of time. My vibe is mainly Rap, Rock and Pop. My purpose in writing music goes beyond mere entertainment. I am driven to compose songs that serve as a source of encouragement, inspiration, and upliftment, carrying a message of hope deeply rooted in the truth that Jesus died for the sins of man. Through my music, I strive to share my personal journey and experiences, revealing how Jesus is an integral part of my life and the creative process.
