Come Unto Him

This intimate, vulnerable worship song performed by Jessica Searl and composed by Bruce, Jennifer & Joshua Searl calls out to the one God who has many names. 

Each of the different Old Testament Hebrew names of God express different aspects of His character and nature. The lyrics of I Will Trust In You are birthed from the meaning of eleven of the names of God or Christ that are used to describe Him and His nature or character in the old and new testaments. In English translations, we often miss this aspect of Hebrew. 

For example: 

“El” which means “God” in it’s most basic form and then they would add on additional words to modify and expand out a particular characteristic of God that they were talking about. Like 

     “El Echad” - The One God 
     “El Shaddai” - The All Sufficient God 
     “El Roi” - The God who sees me

In this way The Old Testament writers were not limited to a simple or narrowly constrained understanding of God and were able to communicate about the wide breadth of Gods existence and the deeply personal nature of God. 

The names of God are inseparable from the Character of God and believers have used His various names to cry out to Him over the millennia, proclaiming our need and our trust in Him, even while our circumstances and present experience cause us to feel like we are falling uncontrollably - Yet we are falling into His loving arms.

God is sure to meet us exactly where we are because he sees me and is fully sufficient for all my needs. It's His name and His nature. We can trust Him in our lives because it's who He is and how He is.

In case you are worried that we just used up all the best names and attributes of God, don’t worry! God has no shortage of names - He is called by almost 1000 different names in the Bible! I’m only using eleven of them so there are plenty of more songs to be written!
