Since April 28, Colombia entered into a national strike catalyzed by a new tax reform in the midst of a brutal economic and social crisis exacerbated by the pandemic. The government tried to shift the burden of tax collection back to the middle and lower classes. Parallel to the peaceful protests, there are organized groups of criminals using the protests to incite violence and even attacking other neighborhoods. The police and military forces executed hundreds of violent acts in the demonstrations and peaceful protests that still continue and that leave to date (8.05.2021) according to Human Rights International, 43 assassinations, 105 disappeared, 160 attacks medical missions, 160 detainees, 1330 wounded and 6 cases of sexual violence. 

While this oppression is at its peak by the police and ESMAD, it is not new. Colombia is a country marked by inequality, corruption and systematic violence against the people through neoliberal policies, drug trafficking and elite mass media that manipulate and hide the truth. In a country where education and health are privileges, where opportunities are utopias and the future seems to be cancelled, people go out, people march, people are angry, people can't take it anymore. They want justice among the cases of police violence, the possibility to live with dignity (free education, accessible health system) and to live in a society in peace.

Aligned with this feeling, multiple collectives and agents of the Colombian and international culture and scene decided to unite and contribute with our art to help the victims of this oppressive government, to amplify and denounce the police barbarism and to raise our voice and resist through our art. SOS Colombia is a fist up, a cry that today becomes a collective action of musicians and visual artists presented in a compilation of techno and experimental music and also short documentaries that will expose to the world how an extreme right-wing government massacres and silences its people.

"Against the violations of human rights" , "In the absence and violence of the state. The people unite and self-manage" and "Dignity, Justice and Peace" will be the three parts of this compilation that will raise funds to give to several verified human rights organizations and self-managed initiatives that are working with the most affected populations of this crisis, that are holding the statistics of police violence and are supporting the invaluable work of the front lines in Cali, Bogota, Medellin.

The origins of Envelope Muse can be traced back to the early 2000s in the coastal deep south of Western Australia. A profound connection to dark 
ambient, harshnoise, industrial, soundtrack and film composition inspired early experimentation with a 4 track recorder, a guitar, a mic and effects pedals, and from those humble beginnings the work of Envelope Muse 
evolved into the dark ambient industrial soundtracks the artist produces today. These heavily textured and moving visions are made possible through the integration of field recordings, modified equipment, film/audio
 samples, voice, synths, guitar and bass. Dialogue runs as a theme and the music is carefully constructed for film and live performance. 
Envelope Muse soundtracks evoke feelings of solitude, melancholy, 
confinement and isolation through their foreboding, ominous and 
discordant overtones. Envelope Muse: Dystopian sound for a dystopian world.

hodgepodge of doom/sludge, dark ambient, post-industrial and leaving behind an ethereal stench interspersed with 
minimal and subtle rhythmic elements.

In 1990, Frankie Bones opened “Groove Records,” a techno outpost deep in Brooklyn. Adam X soon became a co-owner and by 1995 the shop was relocated to Manhattan, with Heather Heart rounding out the trio. The new shop was called “Sonic Groove” and it quickly became ground zero for techno in New York City. There was nothing like it in the area at the time or, arguably, anywhere in America.

Sonic Groove was 110% dedicated to techno, a genre that was just past its infancy and exploding worldwide. A community emerged around the shop and thus the label was spawned.

Adam X had an agenda from the very beginning as label curator (and eventually sole owner): to release some of the most forward thinking underground techno music around. Realizing that goal was no easy feat, considering the volume of records being released at the time in a fast-paced and growing scene.

Fast-forward 25 years. Adam X and Sonic Groove are still at the forefront of modern underground techno, sticking to the same ethos and pushing the envelope further into the future. The faces and sounds may have changed, but the label has kept true to the vision. In an era now dominated by image, style, and trivial content, Sonic Groove continues its mission of putting the music first and foremost.

Now in celebration of 25 years, Sonic Groove releases a muscular 12 song compilation of  previously unreleased music comprised from the label's current artist roster.  A testament to techno's ever evolving sound and serves as a modern document showcasing the path Sonic Groove has taken and where it has led to, proving that as time passes, there is still room for creativity and innovation in the genre as demonstrated throughout these 12 tracks.
