If listening could play a role in rethinking the public sphere, its mediations, complicities, and normalizing mechanisms would first need to be better articulated. To that end, the legal, infrastructural, and conceptual limits of listening, both those local to Brussels and to the zombie remnants of 'modern listening' as such, are amplified into audibility.

Bill Dietz is a composer, writer, and co-chair of Music/Sound in Bard College’s MFA program. His work is often presented in festivals, museums, apartment buildings, magazines, and on public streets. Recent publications include: Maryanne Amacher: Selected Writings and Interviews (co-edited with Amy Cimini, 2020), and Universal Receptivity (co-written with Kerstin Stakemeier, 2021).

Humid mortified world music inflected poppy ghetto tech with perplexed 5-year-old lead vocals in a restful jungle industrial style about a whiney donk, dry sake, and the baroque golden hour featuring the lyrics "wet sushi"  "decadent babies"  "spice up your life" "dirty neck"  "mama mia hand motions" and "kids Pepto bismol"

"IN THE CHAOS OF LOVE, OUR RAGE REMAINS"

A grindcore song with the voice of Leonard Cohen singing about "Morpheus 8," suburu skateboarding, Moonie sushi, and transfat, with a soprano singing the phrases "are you okay" and "context" in a soul metal style, accompanied by a large horrorcore children's choir repeating the phrase "it's natural" in funk carioca style. The chorus of the entire song with all voices is "maybe one is enough" in a spoken word rage love style. Dogs are barking in the background. The whole thing is a protest album.

"Chybíš mi, pořád se mi o tobě zdá" je osmiminutová zvuková explorace paměti, ztráty a podstaty snů. Vzala jsem původní zvuk a postupně ho deformovala, až se stal téměř nerozpoznatelným – zůstaly jen ozvěny jeho původní podoby. Jak se zvuk stále více vzdaluje, posluchači jsou vyzváni, aby se drželi mizivé vzpomínky na to, čím kdysi byl.

Tato skladba je inspirována opakujícími se sny o blízkém příbuzném, který mi před časem odešel. Zachycuje podstatu touhy a stesku po chvílích, které už nejsou – a přesto se mi o tobě pořád zdá. 

Dílo bylo součástí výstavy Embracing Flux, která byla uvedena v galerii Pragovka v Praze a v Českém centru v New Yorku.

EN: 
"I Miss You, I Keep Dreaming About You" is an eight-minute sonic exploration of memory, loss, and the essence of dreams. I took an original sound and gradually deformed it until it became almost unrecognizable—leaving behind only echoes of its original form. As the sound drifts further away, listeners are invited to hold on to the fading memory of what it once was.

This piece is inspired by recurring dreams about a close relative who passed away some time ago. It captures the essence of longing and yearning for moments that no longer exist—and yet, I keep dreaming about you.

The work was part of the Embracing Flux exhibition, presented at Pragovka Gallery in Prague and the Czech Centre in New York.

Chybíš mi, pořád se mi o tobě zdá.

⎤⎤⎤ is an experimental noise project by multidisciplinary artists Chantal Michelle and Grace Villamil. Through synthesis, electronics, found sounds, and vocals, they explore sound obliteration, uncovering organic, intuitive patterns that evoke catharsis as both a mirror and antidote to society. Their work has been showcased at Fridman Gallery [US], Morphine Raum [DE], Ormside Projects [UK], and Opus 40 [US]. Following their 2023 debut on Superpang, their second album will release on Notice Recordings in 2025.
