The REC series compiles outstanding performances recorded in on XRDS festival of last year, highlighting artists representing our love for electronic music. 

Two Fuse residents unite. Fuse Resident DC Salas is a Belgian DJ and producer hailing from Brussels with Peruvian origins. With house, techno, wrongspeeder, disco & New Beat as his trademark. 

Sara Dziri, Fuse resident, DJ, music producer, sound designer and performer, Sara Dziri is a multi-faceted artist. Her dj sets and productions stand for surprising rhythmically complex house and techno. Hybridity and melancholy are central themes in both her music and her overall artistic work.

Here is a new mix I did while travelling to Armenia a couple of weeks ago. 

I did it on my phone in between the waiting room and boarding a plane in Warsaw with the software Djay Pro AI by Algoriddim.

On my phone I have thousands of tracks in high resolution, .aifs files.
 
The mix was recorded in CD quality in the software. 

I did use „sync“ and also some of the „AI crossfades“ to be able to record it flowingly and with all the tempo changes and while showing my boarding pass, literally. 

Even though this is a completely different approach from how I would mix in a club, I did really enjoy doing it this way, it wouldn’t be possible with conventional tools. 

I love music and technology and to try out new ways of recording stuff.

Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit."

Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work.

AGY3NA (@agy3na) draws on many different things when it comes to the music he plays and the messages he shares. There is an intersectionality to his identity as a gay black man growing up in Germany that informs everything he does from DJing to promoting parties. He has a background playing baritone and percussion, has a degree in psychology and a master's in cognitive science, and continues with academic research alongside his music pursuits which blend house, electro and Afrofuturism in all new ways. What underpins it all is his focus on feelings of freedom and playful rhythms from across many different genres and decades.  

All that bares out across this week's mix which unravels over the course of 90 subtly uplifting minutes. It's a peaceful selection to start with where gentle rhythms and organic pads awaken the soul before vibe-fuelled house ups the energy levels. AGY3NA unobtrusive, efficient mixing style then works through Afro-centric grooves, broken beats, and worldly percussion which all bring vigour and vitality and leave you feeling high on life.

This week's episode of Bside Incoming has been placed in the reliable hands of Canadian DJ and Producer, avid collector of records, label boss of Maybe Tomorrow, and man of musical passion: Colin de la Plante AKA The Mole.

Often to be found digging blindly into uncharted subterranean regions on the impassioned pursuit of novel sounds, The Mole endeavours to return to the surface with buried treasures for the keen and willing ears of his audience. Beyond his reputation as a top class live act with an infectious enthusiasm behind the decks, there is much to be said for his prowess as a producer, notably his involvement with Units & Measurements, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, and most recently with his Deadbeat Meets the Mole release on BLKRTZ.

With a career spanning 20 years: originating in Vancouver and currently based in Berlin; releases on such prestigious labels as Ostgut Ton, Perlon, Musique Risquée and Internasjonal; worldwide festival appearances at Mutek, Houghton, Sandbox and Outline; and an ever longer list of collaborative musical projects… we are certainly very excited for Colin to guide us through some of his most cherished Bsides.

Starting out with a focus on slow burning percussion, and left field jazz, before picking up the pace with some smooth electronica, feel good funky beats and some powerful disco. A healthy dose of legendary artists: Patrick Adams, Billy Preston, Marvin Gaye and Hamilton Bohannon; lightly sprinkled with soulful global sounds throughout and an excellent history lesson for each record.

Ever tasteful in his selection, and always keeping us on our toes… The Mole keeps on giving!

'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
