Because capitalist doctrine insists that humans are inherently greedy, self-centered and competitive, its believers cannot imagine any solution to our problems that isn't driven by greed, selfishness and competition. The idea that we can transcend our propagandized conditioning, our cultural mind viruses and our egoic thought patterns enough to move from our competition-based system into a collaboration-based one looks ridiculous to them, because they believe our nature can only ever be at war. At war with each other, and at war with our ecosystem. 

To a thoroughly capitalism-indoctrinated mind, the idea that we can transcend our self-destructive, exploitative, ecocidal patterning and move into collaboration with each other and with our ecosystem to create a healthy, harmonious world looks like childish nonsense. So instead they promote the far more mature and realistic idea that our world will be saved by greedy, union-busting tech oligarchs like Elon Musk.

This Episode: Gautama Buddha’s Second Truth. [00:17]

    In the First Truth, Gautama Buddha encouraged us to fully understand that there is suffering in every corner of our lives.
    In his Second Truth, he tells us what causes these sufferings.

1. Desire [01:05]
    Our desires are never-ending.
    Once we have something new, we start wanting something else.
    So, if we understand this we will not become attached to things, which in turn will end that particular type of suffering.

2. Anger and Aversion. [02:37]
    Aversion is the opposite to attachment,
    and Anger leads to hatred, discrimination, aggression, and a lack of compassion.

3. Unawareness [05:41]
    Here unawareness means: lack of understanding of the true nature of things.

Gautama Buddha's Second Truth

Buddha‘s first teaching was on the four noble truths, and it still remains the very foundation on which Buddhism is built. It was these four realities that the Buddha came to understand during his meditation under the bodhi tree, and they provide a conceptual framework for all of Buddhist thought.

The first reality is ‘There is suffering.’ The word suffering here means a dissatisfaction, discontentment, an uneasy feeling running through our lives.

Compassion is the third of the four immeasurables and it is an understanding that the world is full of suffering, and a heartfelt wish that this suffering will come to an end or at least lessen—for ourselves and others.

Through compassion, the fact that everyone is suffering remains vivid in our minds. Everyone is suffering, so everyone deserves it. Keep in mind that compassion is for the person and not their behaviour. If we think like this, we will be able to cultivate compassion for all human beings.

Four Immeasurables:  Compassion - The Buddha Dharma Series

Times are tough as we're trying to piece our lives together. These frames are made in an extremely spontaneous, natural and non pretentious way. This is a healthy break from my perseverance and darkness. I hope they'll do the same or so to you.

This podcast is pragmatic, secular and makes complicated Buddhist principles easy to understand.

Yeshe is a Buddhist monk. He is from England and teaches meditation, Buddhist philosophy and mindfulness.

Yeshe spent several years in a monastery in the foothills of the Himalayas teaching young monks basic Buddhist philosophy and meditation. He now offers teachings freely to all in a manner that is unpretentious and clear. He does not demand students to blindly accept what he says, but instead invites them to examine their own minds and experiences to discover the validity of Gautama Buddha’s teachings. 

Yeshe quietly demonstrates Gautama Buddha’s teaching on compassion through the charitable trust ‘Sangye Menla’ that he founded in 2008 in Chandigarh, Northern India. The trust provides medical assistance and care to people from the Himalayan region in India.
