Bug is a group of writers and commentators, based in London.

The members of Bug share a common interest in the way popular culture and social behaviour reveal currents of belief, emotion and thought in contemporary society. 

We also explore that idea in talks, notably our ongoing series 37 Things You Need to Know About Modern Britain with London’s House of St Barnabas.

The House of St Barnabas is a charity pledging to break the cycle of homelessness and social exclusion in London. They run a social enterprise, a not-for-profit members’ club, to help the people they support back into lasting paid work. Their Employment Academy offers accredited qualifications, on-site work experience, real job opportunities and mentoring. The House of St Barnabas are seeking to redefine the notion of a members’ club, to challenge stereotypes around the idea of exclusivity and to create a different kind of membership. The club is a creative, socially conscious and vibrant space.

The House of St Barnabas is a Nesta New Radical 2016, has been shortlisted in the final three for the London Homelessness Awards, won the Dot London Social Enterprise Awards in 2015, has been recognised as a Coolbrand for the past three years, and is a London Living Wage Employer. They have also been shortlisted for a Social Enterprise UK award in Employment, Training and Jobs and the Third Sector Awards Brand Development category.

Mini Manifestos were a week long series of thought sparking talks that challenged the audience to think differently. Expanding on the themes of start, create, discuss, encourage and disrupt, the talks take you on a journey following the life-cycle of an idea, from incubation to action to creating real impact, exploring what society can do to nourish lasting positive change.

Colour Carver is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, broadcaster and colour facilitator from London. Her signature sound is spacious and deep, spanning the bass spectrum from atmospheric drivers to liquid d&b, via sensual electronica, city wave, and leftfield trips. 

True to her name, Colour Carver is a colour expert and founder of Colour Your City, which uses the power of colour to transform space, connect community and ecology, activate agency, support interdisciplinary creativity, and improve wellbeing. She is the creatrix of COLOURWORXX too, a multi-media exploration of colour to enrich life.

Colour Carver has shared sonics on Netil Radio, Threads, Margate Radio and Noods Radio. Played at spaces including Shoreditch Arts Club, The Cause, Grow, Tola and House of Annetta; at events such as HTBX, Riposte and Percolate, and created performance soundtracks for aether studio and Sensual Distancing.

Her playful brand as a ‘PhDJ’ combines her worlds of music and academia, as her love of music is just as prolific as her love for writing, education and research. Lulu has been a regular fixture at The Ned and across the Soho House group, as well as being long-term resident at the House of St Barnabas. She has also brought musical joy and high vibes to crowds at festivals such as Citadel, Lovebox and Bestival, and has been a regular at the infamous Pikes hotel in Ibiza. Lulu’s musical repertoire is fun, varied and eclectic, boasting disco, nu-disco, classic house, 80s electro, soul, funk, reggae, old school hip hop and R&B.
