I'm working on a new game, and this is one of the songs I wrote for it. It is closely based upon the project I worked on years earlier; several songs for that game are uploaded to my channel.

You meet your rival early in the game, and he establishes himself as a boastful, arrogant person. He even does damage to your character as a joke. However, his demeanor masks a deep fear of losing people's respect and admiration. He is the bad guy, but he isn't a "bad guy". The song is mostly written in minor and phrygian modes, but there are a few notes sprinkled throughout the song that indicate his true nature underneath his persona.

Gale's Theme - Battle Tower Royale

This is the song that plays when you're at the central hub of the game, the place where all of the NPCs, shopkeepers, and plot-significant scenes are. The opening note plays as you enter a hallway brightly illuminated with sunlight streaming through the windows, which gives way to waterfall-filled caverns. The Lydian mode sets the mood of this place very nicely!

The Slime Warrens - Battle Tower Royale

This is a cut section from the Slime Warrens. I originally meant to take the song in a different direction, where the song would have had three main sections before looping back to the beginning. This section is written in F# minor, linked to the C lydian intro by the F#. However, I couldn't make it work despite my best effort, as I came to realize that what I was writing wasn't really fit as level music anyways.

This section is *very* nearly finished, and only the very end was still somewhat in the thought stage. I was also planning to change up the background arpeggios a bit, but I still think it sounds fine the way it is. It's a pretty nice piece on its own, but not enough to comprise a full song. Still, I didn't want it to go to waste so here it is.

[LR35902] Ballistic Bunny (feat. Kommisar)

This originally started life as a song for Battle Tower Royale, but I quickly found that it wasn't going to work for the game. It ultimately made a pretty sweet track, however! I applied some post-processing to this to make it sound fancy, but the original mono file sounds pretty good as well. This uses the base 2A03 soundchip for the NES, with no DPCM.

Kasbah Rave

At long last, over a year after development started Battle Tower Royale now has its title screen music! I could not be happier with what I have written - this song is legitimately the exciting, upbeat epic I wanted it to be. It is easily the most complex piece of music I have ever composed, containing over a dozen key and mode changes! 

The very core of this song is the section beginning at approximately 2:31 - I wrote that section all the way back in 2014! But while that music sat in my folder for the next decade, it was never forgotten. When I was thinking about what I wanted my game's theme song to sound like, that Irish jig was exactly what I had in mind. I began composing the intro using that progression but in a different key and mode. 

If there is song that I could point to that describes me as a songwriter, this is it. I sincerely hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I do!

Emerald Shores - Battle Tower Royale (Title Theme)

There's no better birthday present than releasing a new track for the occasion! This song plays when you are creating the character that you will play as for the rest of the game. I really think the song captures the exciting sense of anticipation and adventure that awaits you; I decided to take the Tim Follin approach of not caring whether the song feels like it's "too much", and I think it worked out for the best! This whole song is written in 9/4 time, which was quite interesting to approach from a songwriting perspective.

Tell Us Who You Are - Battle Tower Royale (Character Creation Screen)

My fourth song, and a hell of a lot better than anything I've made before. I used the VRC6 Konami expansion chip, which gave me a grand total of 8 channels to mess around with - very helpful indeed. This song is riddled with odd time signatures - 17/8, 7/8, 6/4 and 7/4 are just some of the ones used throughout the song.

Flight of the Black Raven

A new song, at last! Only took me another three months, heh. I originally intended to make this song a lot longer, including a wicked square-triangle unison that actually formed the basis for this song, both in spirit and in title. But I was unable to work it into the song, and I decided to drop it instead of creating sub-standard riffs that had poor lead-ins. 

Tons of double bass here, plus some other drums worked in as well. Some of the percussion parts are very complex - utilizing multiple noise/DPCM instruments in non-4/4 time. And as a side note, I think the intro marching tune-sounding bit is really catchy.

Snowy Heaven

My amazingly slow output rears its ugly head again. This time, I'm ditching the expansion chips and going back to my roots (get it? The "root" of the problem? I'm so clever!). Yep, this song is entirely done on the core 2A03 sound chip, so this would play on an NES in its exact, unmodified form. As a much more experienced song writer, I wanted to see how much further I could push the capabilities of this sound chip, which in my earlier songs went vastly underutilized.

This song doesn't have the super-progressive vibe that my other works did (and certainly not like my WIP Into the Maw), but it does contain some 6/4 and 7/4 bars throughout, as well as a smattering of other odd meters. The intro (which I composed waaaaay back in June 2012 for an unreleased demo song) is essentially in free time, though the last third of it is in 4/4. As usual, this song is done in FamiTracker.
