Motions - To the Sea

Welcome to the second installment of the monthly CGIMIX series.  Volume 2.0 treats us to an expertly blended set of tunes lovingly hand-picked (and in some cases hand crafted) by Atlanta's own Stefan 'REKchampa' Ringer.  With white-hot releases forthcoming on NDATL, Harsh Riddims, Local Heat, and CGI, Stefan is poised to help shape the sound of the next generation of house and techno coming out of the Southeastern US and it is an honor for us to have him showcase his deck skills for our mix series.  The tracks presented here range from deep and soulful to funky and freaky to hard and dark and sensual, and the way he ties it all together displays a focus and passion that is rare, effortless, and noteworthy. Atlanta based producer Stefan Ringer has been working dilligently on his output as he closes out 2014 with two new projects, one being The Fix EP, under his given name, on veteran house producer Kai Alcé’s NDATL Muzik. 

Ringer has been bouncing between his government name and another production alias known as REKchampa and each pseudonym becomes more defined track by track.

OnThe Fix, there’s a flirtatious undercurrent throughout the EP, especially in regards to the vocals that Ringer laid down himself. The overarching vibe of the project was created with the women of the dancefloor in mind, and the result is a warm collection of body movers that are smooth, yet course around the edges.

After releasing an exceptional EP of twisted jackers on CGI last month, it only made sense to ask Grey People to contribute a mix to our series. Here we are treated to a deeper look into what is influencing the pluralist industrial jackin utopia that is his original production work.  Much like the EP itself, this mix takes us through a wide range of moods, from dark and dusty to deep and cosmic to funky and downright playful…and a few things that defy easy categorization.  A most pleasurable cross-section of acid, house, italo, new beat, ebm, new wave, and techno, no one could have weaved all of this together as seamlessly and as creatively as the warped mid if Grey Peopel.

Coming from Polish born, Brooklyn based Amourette, an eclectic DJ pursuing emotion over one particular sound. She’s interested in spaced out electro, broken-beat techno, psychedelic distortions, deep baselines and indelible melodies. Amourette is the co-curator of Brooklyn’s Remedy event series, focused on showcasing raw, groundbreaking talent such as Annanan, Drvg Cvltvre, Marsman, Justin Cudmore, TWINS, Claude Young, Patrick Russell, Zenker Bros and more. Remedy has debuted many artists from Europe and is continuing to promote cutting-edge sounds. She also graciously provided us with a tracklist for this killer set.

We're back with the intermittent mix series that CGI is proud to call it's own with a fresh new mix from Maroje T. Maroje came down to Atlanta in June and played one of the most impressive live sets we've seen in a while for a CGI party, so it only made sense to ask for a mix and see what kind of madness is influencing his brilliant style. Those of you who live in NYC keep an eye/ear out for his awesome REMEDY parties he throws with partner-in-crime Amourette.
