Seems like all you do is fight and see the world in black and white
Spinning truths like you can move our minds as wind upon a kite
And we feel so small, like we can’t stem the tide at all
As papers sow the seeds of anger, setting off like a snowball

Well we got lies making divides from these soothsayers
Setting fires between two sides and I feel jaded
I push my head above the water
Pull away from the disorder, as the tides polarise

We got fault lines running through our bones
The division grows and leaves these empty holes

We rise and fall under the weight of words that fan the flames of hatred
When we demonise, we form a mind that will not be persuaded
Well I am so small and I can’t change too much at all
I’ve got no answers to these fractures, other than breaking these walls

Fault Lines

Latin was my first love, and music is my second. I've utterly fallen for those of the soulful, creative, inspiring and inciting kind. The one composed with heart and soul, the one performed with passion and aplomb. Searching for a way to express my love for and enthusiasm about music, I've found twitter is a decent and effective place to do so, yet given my wordy nature 140 characters one day simply didn't suffice to promote the music I enjoy anymore. This is how my music blog - carpe carmina - came into being (a heartfelt thank-you goes out to my favourite UK band High/Low for the encouragement to start writing about music, to my all time favourite band for so many years by now, Midnight Hour, for making me realize my affection for music and my wish to help those artists in whose talent I believe in, and to all those people who read my blog, who recommend and submit music for it). Listen to Radio Kaos Caribou, Dr. Bones music show and Dave Monk's BBC Introducing Merseyside in general. It's worth it, it's where I - among others - find the music I eventually embossom. 



Inspired by the rawness and honesty of artists like Elliott Smith, Julien Baker, Adrianne Lenker & Sufjan Stevens, Callum Pitt imbues his indie-folk with a grand, orchestral, chamber pop sensibility plus an alt-rock edge. Despite using music often as a canvas to openly discuss depression & anxiety, as well as political unrest, Callum still manages to imprint feelings of optimism and unity - alongside genuine warmth and honesty - throughout his songs.

28-year-old Pitt has been working on his craft for over a decade, beginning as a teenager in the Newcastle pub scene and gradually refining his thoughtful, poetic songwriting voice, leading to festivals such as The Great Escape, Deer Shed & The Long Road and support slots with artists including Donovan Woods, Adia Victoria, Jordan Mackampa and Cattle & Cane. Callum’s development as a songwriter has been recognised with accolades such as ‘Alan Hull Award’ for songwriters in 2019 & the ‘Fender Player Plus’ competition in 2022. As a result of his tireless work ethic, as an independent artist, Callum has amassed over 6 million streams, with releases landing on Spotify’s coveted ‘New Music Friday’ playlists 17 times & received radio play from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music. 

Meanwhile, he’s studying a masters in Occupational Therapy, and has worked with children, young people & adults with disabilities through various outlets, including therapeutic music work, giving him a new perspective on the cathartic and unifying power of music.

We are two old friends from KY. Posting songs we recorded many years ago on Tascam cassette recorders...and starting to get together to write and record again on a Tasccam DP24 when our dad schedules allow...hopefully we'll have some new ones to post soon.
