Open enrollment for medicare begins this week, and local officials are highlighting tools to help older residents. 
Kristina Whiton-O'Brien, Program Manager of Barnstable County’s health insurance counseling service SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone), says they are happy to answer questions about the enrollment process for free, including overthe phone or through e-mail, but added there are robust services online from the state as well. She says on medicare.gov, users can put in their perscriptions can get full lists of monthly costs and where to get the lowest costs.

Local actors return to the Wilbur Theater October 30 for true-crime frights in “A NightMARE with Casey Sherman,” bringing multiple investigations by Sherman to stage. 


These include his investigations into the Boston Strangler case, of which Sherman’s aunt Mary Sullivan was the last victim, and Helltown, the story of the murderer Tony Costa in Provincetown. 


Sherman says that the Strangler case was one of his first major investigations and led to several new breakthroughs, including the discovery of lost confession tapes of Albert DeSalvo that audience members will get to hear for the first time publicly as part of a new documentary debuting Sunday, October 26. 


“The Boston Strangler: Unheard Confessions” debuts tonight at 6 pm on Oxygen on NBCUniversal. 


Actor Christine Mone also joins Casey Sherman on Sunday Journal to talk about her roles in NightMARE conveying real people rather than fictitious characters and the growing film industry on the Cape and Islands.

The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, the largest food pantry in Barnstable County, says it is prepared to assist residents who may lose SNAP benefits if the federal government shutdown continues beyond Oct. 31. Executive Director Paul Lonergan said the pantry expects a surge in first-time clients and assured the public that services are free and easy to access. 
With a large warehouse and close coordination with the Greater Boston Food Bank, the pantry is maintaining strong inventory levels and can secure additional food from local vendors if needed. Lonergan emphasized the organization’s mission to ensure that no one on Cape Cod goes without food or clothing.
The pantry operates entirely on private donations and may issue a special appeal if SNAP funding is suspended.

The Upper Cape Tech  is bringing back its holiday tradition of a dinner and a show with the “Wizard of Oz” starting December 12th.


Drama Director Bobby Generau and senior Blake Gagne (who is playing the titular Wizard) Join Sunday Journal this week to talk about the show and highlight the menu. The production will feature new technology and an updated theater space. The students get to flex their talents every production, being a part of the set production, tech staff, and culinary crew.
