Barefoot dips your toes into the waters of a dream and very casually, as if he’s never visited the modern world, rows you from steamy murk to aquatic paradise. These four tracks present a sumptuous array, the layers and renderings of this familiar, yet rarely attended realm; eddying microcosms and dizzying currents. Alas, it’s an illusion, a matrix thrown over the workings of the reverie, which unveils a virtual panorama of digital organics. By Spirit Animal we arrive back in our reality; data informs these murmurings, these chirrups and twitterings; in the future world data is the lingua franca of the imaginary swamp and the fictional jungle. Internal Wave is an ongoing collaboration between The Vision Reels & Barefoot. The pair have been working closely over the past 5 years or so, collaborating and helping each other with production techniques. 

Both coming from different methods and approaches, they have found the best of both worlds here on their first EP. Mixing modular synthesis with sample manipulation and a wide range of outboard instruments and gear. 

Internal Wave Sequence 01 is the first in a series of environment based themes, the first being the ocean. Inspired by their beautiful surroundings in two tiny corners of the South of England, they recorded sounds from the ocean and coastline which formed the foundation for the EP and concept. They then let the inspiration take flow and the result is 4 tracks of subtle, tonal, melodic textures & emotions. Dreams from the eternal & internal deep blue.

In terms of the creative process for this album, I wanted to develop new production techniques using only field recordings recorded in my area with modular synthesis and effects pedals while altering the sound with tape recorders in some tracks to add an even more lively, organic and random touch.

The story I wish to tell is the initiatory journey of a man of spirituality, Milarepa who learned witchcraft in his youth and who for an ancient revenge used black magic against his enemies. But driven by remorse and purified by the trials of an old sage whose disciple he asks to become, he succeeds thanks to the teachings passed on to him and to his life as a hermit, in attaining awareness. His journey has inspired many people over the centuries and hopefully continues to inspire a generation seeking mysticism and hope today.

The other little story I had fun doing with the titles of these tracks is that you can read the 6 names in a row as if they were one sentence, as a summary of the stages of this man's life and also to reinforce the fact that the album is to be listened to in the intended order as it tells a story with an established chronology forming a coherent whole.

A sonic portrait of a city suspended in twilight, it traces the quiet pulse of urban dusk — moody and gently immersive. As the day exhales and the skyline softens, textures emerge — quiet synths, distant echoes, and the hush of passing lives.

Le Code is a French ambient artist known for creating soft atmospheric soundscapes with subtle synthesizer or piano sounds inspired by nature (especially water and the ocean). He also co-founded Mare Nostrum Label, largely continuing the ocean theme.
