DJ Vadim enters the 25th Anniversary slot and his history with the show dates back to 1996 when he was a guest on Solid Steel at Kiss FM. He has appeared many times since and with this mix he goes way back. In his own words;
"THIS is a little bit different in that i don't play 50's music all the time but i wanted to connect a few dots. Ninja is one of those labels that has inadvertently inspired and created so many musical fusions, which in turn have resulted in sub genres and new genres... and in that way I wanted to show how musical pioneers like Ray Charles laid the path combing elements never mixed before to create a musical revolution, and how that has in a small way evolved to where we are today. And i thought, as it's Solid Steel's 25th anniversary, it makes perfect sense!"
DK finishes up the show with Quantic and his take on the Lauren Hill classic 'That Thing', plus more latin and Brazilians bombs from Jayme Marques, Som Tres and Tempo 70 , ending with the sublime Christian Prommer version of 'Strings of Life'

Then it's Afrikan Boy paying homage to Fela Kuti and the original Afrobeat sounds of Uppers International from the Afrobeat Airways 2 compilation, before ending with a visit to the Aba Shanti sound system as every trip to carnival should include.
Visionist takes over proceedings with his mix of past and future Lost Codes releases, including some of his own productions. It's his forthcoming release 'Can't forget' that opens the mix and continues with music from Filter Dread, Breen, Dark0 and Bloom on Lost Codes, the label founded by Visionist in 2012 bringing music routed in grime but with experimentation. Their mix touches on some 80's gems from Aaron Broomfield, The Jones Girls, 9th Creation and Kashif, laced throughout with a whole plethora of Letherette tracks straight off the hard drive. 'After Dawn' is out now and features remixes from Bibio, Barker and Baumecker, plus a Jimmy Edgar remix of 'Restless'.

Solid Steel (13th September) We welcome London Elektricity to the show having appeared 4 times from '99 to 2002 and as always, we wanted something a little different. Here in his own words;
"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

This month Carhartt WIP Radio proudly presents a show by Honest Jon’s records, the label behind the legendary London based record shop. Music connoisseurs call it London’s ultimate record collector’s paradise, and, to many local music-addicts, it is like a second home where they can share their love of music with the family of experts behind the counter. Honest Jon’s originally opened in 1974 on Golborne Road in London's Ladbroke Grove, moving around the corner five years later onto the famous Portobello Road, where it has built up a reputation over the years as a stomping ground for record collectors, music lovers, producers, and musicians from all around the world. In 2001 storeowners Mark Ainley and Alan Scholefield, founded together with Damon Albarn from Blur and Gorillaz Honest Jon’s records. The label is a kind of musical mirror of all those sounds that have always been available at the shop. In a “blinkers-off” approach, their release list covers lost reggae, old and new Afro, variations of jazz, calypso, and folk that have long been forgotten by popular culture, as well as contemporary Folk, dance, and the new electronic avant-garde. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Honest Jon's co-owner Alan Scholefield selected some music from this profuse catalogue, which staffer Budgie then mixed into a special multidimensional narrative, in which every track tells a story of its own, spanning a time period from the fifties to the present.
