Rewind back to 2015, and this was the year that Alex Mine actually produced the original track ‘Lost’, a track which remained homeless yet waiting to be unleashed on the right label. It wasn't until he bumped into Monika Kruse whilst in Barcelona for Sonar, where she signed it after the first listen to her beloved Terminal M imprint.

Initial feedback was outstanding, but it really all started to happen when Carl Cox said he loved it, and wanted to do a remix, alongside fellow Italian producer Roberto Capuano. Carl drops a funky, chunky groove rework with tech house vibes, whilst Roberto throws in his techno cut. A hypnotic combination of synthetic movements, vocals and acid rhythms.

The seventh volume of Drumcode’s annual A-Sides compilation hits with no less than 10 debuts for the label, with Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, B.Traits and Scuba’s SCB project, among the collection of topline artists to release their maiden productions on the imprint. 

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fueled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others. 

As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting 22 unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months. 

Outstanding all-round talent ANNA kicks off the compilation with ‘Portable Paradise’, a pulsating cut that sets the tone for the top-shelf club cuts to follow. Also entering the debut field with their first ever Drumcode dalliances are B.Traits and Charlotte de Witte. The esteemed Canadian selector offers up ‘I Feel The Music’, a euphonic track that’s been sought after since spring, and the Belgian ballista unlocks a thick-edged club bomb in ‘Remember.’

Leaders of Drumcode’s new brigade, exciting Brazilian Wehbba and British techno alchemist Boxia set out to impress. Wehbba’s straight-talking ‘Just’ hits with an immediate sense of urgency before neck-snap claps strike with force, and Boxia’s ‘Final Call’ elicits physical engagement with mellifluous vocals and soaring pads. 

Continuously looking to bolster the profiles of emerging talent, Berlin-based producers Weska and Juliet Fox are brought into the fold with equally engaging razor-sharp tracks that are primed to do lasting damage. 

Other notable highlights include an exhilarating workout from Reset Robot - the most released artist on Beyer’s imprint Truesoul – as he lands on Drumcode for the first time. And tastemaker’s favourite Jel Ford makes a welcome return as he ushers in techno rhythms with bustling breaks in ‘Nightshade.’

Elsewhere, support from label mainstays comes in from Bart Skils, who offers a work of consummate skill in ‘West Of The Moon.’ Alan Fitzpatrick, who’s been heavily featured across the A-Side series, joins forces with Scuba as he operates as his uncompromising alias SCB. The result is a propulsive floor-gripper that testifies to their masterful deftness as co-producers. Formidable duos Dense & Pika and Pig&Dan also contribute with powerful compositions.

Lisbon’s Inés Coutinho aka Violet is one of the main faces of Lisbon’s blossoming underground music scene, co-running a queer event series called mina and local internet radio station Rádio Quântica. After starting out as a DJ in shops, pubs and hotels — a time she values greatly —, she briefly lived in London for a while, and around the time she returned to Lisbon her career took off.

Not in the slightest due to her impeccable label Naive, which has been turning heads for its boundless approach and string of strong releases by often upcoming and mostly female artists like Octo Octa, Almaty, Ilana Bryne and Eris Drew, and on which she also released her own ‘Togetherness’ EP. Her mixing approach is a captivating concoction of breakbeat, bass, techno and basically everything else — not eschewing an occasional Cardi B or RnB from the 00’s weaved into her sets.

This Selectors Podcast reflects her engagement with her local scene and its upcoming artists: “This mix is like being surrounded by friends and inspirations from my local scene. Most of its tracks are quite recent and made by young artists whose relentlessly imaginative output has been capturing my imagination”, like BLEID, Stasya and Odete, as well as more established artists from her scene like Photonz and Príncipe’s Marfox. The result is a 70-minute rollercoaster of drums, rhythms and surprises, full of different sounds and influences. According to Coutinho herself, that’s “what [she] feels makes it special, rather than having a specific geographically-pinnable sound.”

Live At Robert Johnson deploys a very true to its school release by one of Brussels finest, @DC Salas. „The Complicated Art of Dreaming“ tells a four-track tale of joyous and airy nights on the dancefloor. A few euphoric sixteenths and a few quirky acid lines, lush pads and irresistible drums—it’s all about giving you that driving and energetic feeling, with more than one genuine hands in the air floorfiller at your disposal.

Things are what you expect of LARJ: Driving high quality tracks with an emotional twist, a nod to the luscious moments on the wooden dancefloor.

DC Salas is thirtysomething year old Diego Cortez Salas, a skilled talent with peruvian origins hailing from Brussels. His four-track EP „The Complicated Art of Dreaming“ delves into classic territories, an eclectic amalgamation of his musical inspirations in 15 years of digging and DJing. A regular DJ at C11 and Kiosk Radio both in Brussels, Diego also co-runs Biologic Records with his mate Abstraxion since 2014.

The system fizzed and flashed, electrical currents buzzed and vibrated and his body was alive with a throbbing pulse which kept him awake and preoccupied. His heart was a microchip, a special type of man. He wondered what it was to be human and not machine, to be something more than a framework. His software told him what to feel and think but there were times in which even that short circuited and caused internal dispute. Perhaps it would be best if some great virus touched down upon his portals and plagued his very core. 

Agents Of Time are set to release a new EP on longstanding German label Kompakt, an imprint which requires little introduction. They deliver an eclectic mix of club ready tracks alongside one particularly interesting downtempo excursion which we bring you today.

For this month program we bring you music by the label Mannequin Records, launched in Rome, Italy by Alessandro Adriani in 2008. Now operating from Berlin, Germany, Mannequin is spreading cold waves for the melancholic with music by the labels boss Adriani, likeminded producers like Jasss, Black Merlin, De Sang Froid or Greek producer June, as well as archival work by electronic, industrial and wave veteran’s like Bourbonese Qualk from England, Italian synth queen Doris Norton or Berlin’s infamous Din A Testbild. 

For Carhartt WIP radio Alessandro Adriani prepared a mix, that introduces a deep digging selection from the extensive Mannequin Records catalogue, featuring artist like Arnaud Rebotini, Techno Bert, Group A or Caroline K.
