This month episode of Carhartt WIP Radio is brought to you by the Amsterdam-based musician, artist, and DJ @upsammy, whose sounds map a futuristic terrain of crystalline melodies, complex rhythms, and a blend of digital and organic textures.

In 2016, she uploaded her track “Zona” to SoundCloud, which caught the attention of the Nousklaer Audio label, and led to her debut EP "Another Place" in 2018. Since then, she’s released more music on Nous'klaer, as well as on Dekmantel, Pan, and Die Orakel; held residencies at NTS Radio and Amsterdam’s club Garage Noords; and completed a degree at Utrecht University of the Arts. In 2025, she debuted a new audiovisual live show for her album Strange Meridians, released in 2024 on topo2.

Fresh from her stunning debut album Percussive Reverie (Annulled Music) and ahead of her forthcoming Nefanda on Samurai Music this July, Aerae speaks in refracted rhythms: sinewy drums, cavernous reverbs, melodies coded in Latin fragments. Dance music as incantation—dense yet breathing, suspended between rave energy and meditative drift.

i watched as the shapes of people grew unimaginably
the glimmering swells were interspersed with pearls
which gradually came loose and fell
unlocked, my innermost madness unfurled into a spiraled conch

as the day darkened, the sounds became grim and hoarse
emotions scraped against each other with serrated edges
disintegrating madness into a fine lunar silt
voices came flooding, and in unison whispered: trust"
