Demo for a cover of Jethro Tull's "Witch's Promise", done with GarageBand software Instruments and Doggiebox drum programming. When, I get the chance, I will record proper guitars, basses ... and vocals! :)

Witch's Promise (Instrumental MIDI Demo)

This started as an experiment to approach the guitar tones of Garry "Gaz" Jennings (ex-Cathedral), though I eventually decided these are best approximated by a dimed (and perhaps somewhat boosted) JCM800. But then it acquired riffs, drums, bass -- and, of course, rain, thunder, and tolling church bells. It needs some appropriately off-the-wall lyrics and probably either a psychedelically-tinged breakdown or galloping Sabbathy fast section (or both) carrying on from where the current demo ends. Have to think about it!

Wizard on the Mountain

Wizard on the Mountain (Demo - November 2021)

A demo recorded for my former UK band, The Hibachi Dealers, in about 2005/2006, dusted off and slightly remixed in 2013. The vibe is supposed to be sort of "Black Öyster Tull", though it probably comes out a bit more sub-Spın̈al-Tap ... ;) I think this remix is about as good as I can make the original fairly rough demo recordings; I have started thinking about doing a good new recording. (But should it be faster? The same? Have to play with it some more ....)

On the Hill (Demo)

With apologies to Messrs. Davey and Chadwick, a new version of a partial demo of this classic Hawkwind song. There's more to do, but I kinda like how it's coming along. :)

Recorded in Garageband, using Amplitube's Orange amplifier models for guitars and basses.

ΛΣΔ (Partial Demo, July 2013)

Partial demo for a projected longer piece. Starts with ambient synth scares, then picks up with some riffing drone rock and world-pysch touches. All done in GarageBand with various soft synths and instruments, samples, and a bass through Amplitube.

Iset: Before the Dawn & Sunrise (Demo April 2015)

A partial demo for an "epic metal" arrangement of the famous Scottish border ballad (Child 39). It's definitely unfinished: at the moment, the story only reaches the point where Tam reveals that "the Queen of Fairies, she caught me when from my horse I fell" -- and it's already over six-and-a-half minutes long. Recorded in Garageband, though the guitar and bass amp models are courtesy of some Amplitube plug-ins, and the drums were programmed in Doggiebox with the old ns_kit7 samples. My version of the lyrics is kind of a mash-up of various attested variants; the music is mostly my own, though it references bits of the arrangements made famous by Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. It's gonna be huge and bombastic as all get out by the time I finish it! :)

Tam Lin (Partial Demo)

Formed in 1971 ;) Carl grew up on a musical diet of folk, jazz, and classical music, before succumbing to the heady glories of rock-and/or-roll in a teenage daze. Thereafter, he played guitar and bass, wrote songs, and generally jammed out in various bands in the US and UK. 

Now based in Colombia, South America, the demands of fatherhood and family life may have, admittedly, slowed his output a bit, but have by no means dampened his enthusiasm as he continues mucking about with home-recording projects (thus being forced to add keyboards, drum programming, and -- gulp! -- vocals to his repertoire) while hoping that technology eventually makes online collaborations easier. :)
