For this composition, I used the Phrygian mode.
The Phrygian mode (pronounced /ˈfrɪdʒiən/) can refer to three different musical modes: the ancient Greek tonos or harmonia, sometimes called Phrygian, formed on a particular set of octave species or scales; the medieval Phrygian mode, and the modern conception of the Phrygian mode as a diatonic scale, based on the latter.
the scale in C phrygian is: C,Db,Eb,F,G,Ab,Bb.
Medieval Phrygian mode
The early Catholic Church developed a system of eight musical modes that medieval music scholars gave names drawn from the ones used to describe the ancient Greek harmoniai. The name "Phrygian" was applied to the third of these eight church modes, the authentic mode on E, described as the diatonic octave extending from E to the E an octave higher and divided at B, therefore beginning with a semitone-tone-tone-tone pentachord, followed by a semitone-tone-tone tetrachord.

Clear as Midnight

Adrenaline Slip is the ambitious and progressive debut full-length from Textbook Maneuver, the solo project of Michael Keane. This is an artist and composer to watch, presenting interesting new music with each release. He creates music that takes listeners on an atmospheric journey, taking his classical piano training but transforming his composed themes into organic electronic music.

Songs are born from improvisational sessions, where melodic themes evolve alongside harmonic and rhythmic progressions. Each track, supported by narrative-driven song titles and artwork, tells a story. The result is a unique fusion of nostalgic prog and contemporary electronica, offering an immersive listening experience.  Current success includes 5 released tracks, and part of Life Science Records. 

The album’s apex is the four-part suite, known but untitled as Space Trip. Starting with “Tell Them I’m Not Here (Still in Outerspace)”, a trippy long-form chill out. The video has garnered 47K+ views. The album moves into “Spacewalks”, Michael’s personal favorite right now. The suite closes out with the two-punch, highly melodic and emotional “Re-Entry” and “Controlled Landing.” Michael says, “these songs were inspired by the nearly nine months our two NASA astronauts spent in space in 2024 into this year. For each part of the suite, I wanted the title and musical themes, timbre, tempo, and overall emotional effect to be my interpretation of what it might feel like to be suspended out there, doing what you love but also wishing you were home.” There is a self-described coda, “Murmur 3 Home” which wraps up the album. Two other “Murmurs” appear. “Yeah, these are meant to be kind of like segues as the album moves through themes but serve as stand alone songs. I have many other ‘murmurs’ composed, planning on having on all future albums.”

Well, onto the music; over an hour to get immersed in. This is a very ambitious endeavor, for a debut, mixed and mastered with headphone wearers or listeners with long drives in mind. Looking forward to everyone’s reaction and what the future may hold for this talented new artist.

Born in México City in 1955, started playing at an early age. In Mexico, I played with bands like "Batallón de San Patricio", "Atrás del Cosmos", "Queso Sagrado", " Broken Heart", "Decibel", "Bardo Thodol", "Kathmandu Ensemble". In New York City I played with Bands like, "King"s East", "In The Service Of", "Fist of Facts", "Desire", "Dense Undergrowth"," "Matahari", "Like Wow", "Devil's Breakfast", "Muse Mob", "Atlantis 3000", "Monster", "Zenith", "Andromeda Crash" "Night Shade", I also collaborated with Hector Zazou, Harold Budd, Elliott Levin, Dennis Charles, Tetsu Inoue, Bettina Koster. Barbara Gogan, and many others. For many years I also wrote Jingles for a lot of products like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mc Donalds, Toyota, Kodak, Payless Shoes, Rothman's, Salsa Tabasco, JC Penny, Liberty Science Center, American Heart Association, MCI, Reebok, AT&T, Fanta, Play Movil, etc, I also made music for Viacom writing music for cartoon networks, Bravo TV, Chanel 1, and MTV. Also wrote music for Bill Moyers (PBS)and also for Fax TV in Germany.
