Caroline Hill is joined by community organizer, educator, and racial equity consultant and coach, Miki Poy. Society is in a moment where schools are under attack, teachers are under attack, critical race theory is being banned, and books are being censored. There’s a lot to unpack from Caroline’s point of view.

Miki asks Caroline what’s on the other side of her dream, and Caroline talks about her vision for a world where people are able to come together to move with accountability to reconciliation. Caroline Hill is joined by Savannah Gress, Director of Strategic Impact at Kindred Communities, to talk about healing and where it belongs in public and private spaces. More specifically, they discuss what it means to be able to prioritize and elevate racial healing.  

Caroline mentions a case study done between two of her clients called “Healing While Black and White”, where one black woman and one white woman tell the story of how they became each other’s “people”—experiencing a sense of belonging to one another. Their bond has created a becoming in their personal lives, as well as the life of their shared organization.

In this episode of The Equity Drop podcast, Caroline is joined by educator Andre Zarate. Andre is the founder of House of Legends, a school he’s currently developing that will be designed for the needs of queer students of color. 

Caroline and Andre discuss healing spaces for teachers and students, and celebrate the spirit of healing. They talk about slowing down, the importance of remembering what brings us joy, and how healing spaces for students can’t be created unless educators are on healing journeys themselves. Healing spaces allow us to find our edges, explore what they can teach us about ourselves, and allow us to transcend boundaries of what is in order to explore what could be.
