Noisy Friarbird And Friends

Recorded as Binaural but speaker playback works well also.
Recorded sitting on a bench seat in Kalinga Park, located about 15min from Brisbane City. Ducks, Crows, Doves, common Mynas and many others can be heard. Also traffic including Trains (Toombul Station not too far away). There is also a major tunnel being constructed on the Eastern fringe (and under) the park - heard as a constant low frequency noise. The Park is 5 minutes from my home and is a wonderful sanctuary from the stresses of life.

Recorded on the edge of Kedron Brook in Kalinga Park, Brisbane, Australia. I was trying to record some ducks when a dog escaped from its owner & ran down into the water to chase the ducks!

Whipbirds, Green Catbirds (they sound like crying children), Golden Whistlers,  the unusual sounding Wompoo Fruit Dove  and many more can be heard.

Recorded in Mary Cairncross reserve, Maleny QLD. A few passers-by, the Green Catbird which sounds to me like a child calling out and some mosquitoes.

Walking track in Rainforest

Recorded late morning in the Mary Cairncross reserve in Queensland, Australia.
Sub-tropical rainforest, the main bird call is a Golden Whistler, also the Wompoo fruit dove & green catbird (sounds like a child calling out) can be heard. It was fairly wind in canopy, so leaves and seedpods can be heard dropping occasionally.

Trying out some new gear- this was recorded during the dawn chorus at Neurum Creek after a night of heavy rain-  lots of dripping and the previously stagnant creek running in the background.

Sunrise in Eucalypt Forest

Recorded in D'Aguilar National Park, Queensland, Australia
I think these are Regent Bowerbirds, they are the most common to the area, they could however be Satin Bowerbirds, I saw them briefly as they flew fairly close-by but couldn't make out their colour.
Seedpods can be heard dropping as well as many flies & mosquitoes. The Bowerbirds were very active and constantly flew from tree to tree, often quite low & close to the ground.

Bowerbirds in Rainforest

Playing the Pokies (slot machines) is a well loved Australian pass time.
If you have no job or you're on a pension, what better to do with your time than invest your fortnightly grocery money into a local sports club or pub?
The amount of poker machines in Queensland has to be seen to be believed.
I recorded this last year while I was investing the money I had saved for my Grandmothers nephrectomy into a local pub.
I can be extremely altruistic sometimes.

Summer in The Australian Bush

Recorded while walking down Bangla Road around 10PM. 
The road is closed to traffic at night and becomes alive with drunken tourists, over a hundred bars & locals selling everything from cigarettes &  jewellery to "ping-pong" shows & cheap alcohol.  
About halfway down the road I came across a troupe of Ladyboys posing for photos (for a price) with tourists, circled by an angry young man collecting money & telling off anyone snapping without paying.

Bangla Road at Night - Phuket, Thailand

Recorded Mid-October just on Sunrise at Toonumbar National Park in NSW,  Australia.
Recorded with a Sennheiser MKH 30/40 Rig and a Sound Devices 702 Recorder, converted to Stereo and Edited in Adobe Audition CS6.
The background noise is from a distant creek and wind, both reduced quite a bit using a low-cut filter.

Double Lightning Strike

I think that as we grow & and fall into the repetition of work & routine our perception of the world vignettes and we loose our sense of wonder and amazement- at least, that's my experience.
Recording the sounds around me forces me to listen to my world objectively which I find reveals some of the inherent beauty in life.
