En demasiadas ocasiones el deseo se ha entendido como una simple añoranza frente a lo que nos falta. Así el individuo se construye y avanza sobre su falta o el malestar sobre lo que le desearía tener. Sin embargo, para Antonio Negri, siguiendo la concepción de Spinoza y sumándose a la clave de bóveda del proyecto de Deleuze y Guattari, el deseo se basa en la potencia.

En términos de Negri: “La potencia que es figura general del ser y que sostiene la concepción del conatus como pulsión de todo ser hacia la producción de sí mismo y del mundo , se expresa entonces como cupiditas y embiste de manera constitutiva el mundo de las pasiones y de las relaciones históricas”

En esta sesión partiremos de una entrevista realizada por Raúl Sánchez Cedillo para este curso a Antonio Negri y dialogaremos con Montserrat Galcerán sobre el contenido de la misma.

The Ukrainian government is quickly learning that it can say anything, literally anything at all, about what's happening on the ground there and get it uncritically reported as an actual news story by the mainstream western press.

The latest story making the rounds is a completely unevidenced claim made by a Ukrainian government official that Russians are going around raping Ukrainian babies to death. Business Insider, The Daily Beast, The Daily Mail and Yahoo News have all run this story despite no actual evidence existing for it beyond the empty assertions of a government who would have every incentive to lie.

I went back to my old DAW (EnergyXT2) for this ambient piece, because I wanted to use a particular 32-bit VSTi. the concept for this work is to take two abstract rhythmic sections both panned hard left & right each with their own rhythm and tones but together, when combined creating something "other"

sounds are effected drumracks in ableton on the left with field recordings of me bashing stuff in the garden on the right

Some randomized autopan is applied to give the pieces movement in the mix

Graphic score based on interpretation of drained tea leaves.

Patch on my modular system is built on a repeating sequence of 8 triggers from which the pitch is also derived (Turing Machine) - on/off state initialised from the graphic score shown. Sequence flips in and out of double speed (intrinsic to patch, not part of score).

3 latching gates (gt1, gt2 and gt3) and two control voltages (cv1 and cv2)are used to control various parameters of the patch. These are also as shown in the graphic score and determined by arrangement of tea leaves.

disquiet0550 - tea leaves

Initially, I thought Gabber wouldn't be my cup of tea, but archive.org had some really interesting modern Gabber tracks under a Creative Commons License. The song that appealed to me the most was from an Indonesian production (Gabber Modus Operandi - Puxxximaxxx, "Hey Nafsu", https://archive.org/details/yesno091).

Ninety-nine percent of the sounds came from the track. I chopped up the snippets with Voltage Modular, stretched them in Ableton, and maltreated them with long effects chains. To add a bit of Ambient cliche, I added the song of a humpback whale (because, why not – sometimes a track needs a pink fluffy unicorn ribbon).

It still sounds rough around the edges, but maybe there's a genre of noise ambient it fits into.

Disquiet Junto Project 0556: Gabber Ambient
The Assignment: Field-test a hybrid genre.

Gabber and ambient music seem like polar opposites. Gabber is typified by a constant distorted kick drum pummelling you at upwards of 200bpm. Ambient, on the other hand, can be deeply immersive or barely noticeable. This project asks the question: is “gabber ambient” possible?

Step 1: Consider what makes gabber gabber and what makes ambient ambient. Where is there crossover?

Step 2: Make a track that could be construed as “gabba ambient.”

Step 3: You’re probably going to want to delete it. Try not to. Save and upload.

Eight Important Steps When Your Track Is Done:

Step 1: Include “disquiet0556” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your tracks.

Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0556” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation of a project playlist.

Step 3: Upload your tracks. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your tracks.
