Back with another serious heavy hitter, Crosstown Rebels presents the latest from dream team Psychemagik, ‘Black Noir Schwarz’ ­ their first original production not to be self­released and already championed by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. A club weapon of psychedelically charged, electro­tinged epic proportions, the original is driven by the monster wonky bassline, dark and sultry vocal (from Renata De Sutter aka Renegade) and freaky synths. Spooky keys and chords, and grinding distorted bass bring the track to even murkier depths. Featuring remixes by the legend that is Tensnake and Minéo, make no mistake ‘Black Noir Schwarz’ is set to destroy all dancefloors in its wake.
UK dance music heroes, avid vinyl collectors and masters of the re­edit, Danny McLewin and Tom Coveney aka Psychemagik first entered the public consciousness with their supreme, balearic pop and 12” disco edits. Since then the UK duo has since released an impressive array of highly acclaimed original productions and remixes. Recent remix projects include Bryan Ferry, Haim, Boy George, The Villagers, Azari & III, Metronomy, Chapel Club, Kauf and Mirror People. After other much lauded compilations, such as the self­released ‘Diabolical Synthetic Fantasia’, last years superb ‘Magik Sunrise’ was named the #1 Compilation Of the Year at Piccadilly Records and featured in most good record shops top 10 compilations of 2013 bestsellers lists, including Rough Trade and Phonica. The duo has just returned from a world tour of Australia, USA, Mexico, Asia and Europe.

Tensnake needs little introduction. A household name since his dancefloor smash ‘Coma Cat’ on Permanent Vacation, the Hamburg born DJ and producer Marco Niemerski has since been in ever­increasing demand. His music effortlessly transcends genres and his forthcoming debut album ‘Glow’ is set to cement his reputation as a major talent. For Crosstown Rebels, Tensnake delivers a full­bodied and rolling ‘Black, Noir...’ rework.

Minéo has been buried away in the studio for the past couple of years working on music for his new solo project. With his latest release ‘Turn Out The Lights’ flying high on Hot Creations, Mineo arrives on Crosstown Rebels and turns in a totally fresh take on ‘Black Noir Schwarz’, revelling in a P­funk style groove and filtered vox.

Flaunting both vision, nerve and unmistakable production skills, the duo's new works are among their strongest, packed with devilish tricks and mischievous maneuvres. 'Hunter' moves between steely grooves with nimble dexterity, loading up the drops and launching them with elastic finesse. 'Sort Kaffe' — meaning black coffee in danish — is a deeper thing, laced with jungle drums and frothy synths, coiling incense spelling out wicked things in the moonlight.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With The Quest, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

NHAR (My Favorite Robot, Correspondant) is a consummate storyteller, and he opens the book with the glistening space tech of 'Navigli'. This is quickly followed up by newcomer Dan Grassler, whose superb 'Going Back' with US vocalist KnowKontrol is powerfully brooding and promises great things for the Munich-based producer.

The momentum picks up further with the standout 'Over My Head', a dark and delicious cut from two returning Chapter 24 artists, Alex Zed and Billie Fountain.

The label welcomes Teho and Machino for their inaugural releases on the imprint. Frenchman Teho (Herzblut, Parquet) serves up a double helping of delight with the skilfully crafted 'Back To The Forest' and the tense tech house of 'Drunken Leads'. Meanwhile, Machino (Desert Hearts), one of a new wave of Tijuana-based producers, showcases his unique blend of potent techno and ambient influences on 'Perdidos'.

Finally, Melodule and Van Did bring the tales to a close with 'Téou 12', a dreamy, abstract piece that showcases wonky basslines, drifting pads and engaging sound design.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories. 

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Nothing Is Real welcome Low Manuel for the 6th release of the label. 

Low Manuel is a real music lover born in Italy in the 90’s.  His music vision is the expression of his character, introspective, dark and sophisticated.
His style is a mixture of indie electronic but also Techno and his compositions transmit emotions, influenced by the Stars and the Marine World. The 'Scourge Ep' explores new musical shades, hinting at moments of new wave through a lens of psychedelia.
The title track is a trip with an incredibly catchy rhythmic pattern and a strong bassline, while 'The Room’ has a ravey hypnotic and powerful touch.
The Italian duo Margot remix ’The Scourge’ delivering a strong version with their typical synth-driven kraut-techno style adding insane beats, fizzing synths and peaking chords for optimal dancefloor effect. While Nhar gives us his unique and introspective reinterpretation giving the track a mesmerizing deep electronic vibe, taking us to a journey between the bright and dark sides.

We started playing the Urleiwand Remix EP in our infant's nursery, where we noticed them playing music in the crib room to provide white noise for the sleeping babies. The idea of a lullaby-ized version of music we already enjoy listening to appealed to us, so we started out with a couple of the titles in the Voll Schön series. We've enjoyed them so much that we're now up to ~15 of these, if for no other reason than to provide us with some variety as we rock our child before putting him down for the night. By removing the words and playing the songs at a more or less constant volume, they provide a soothing bedtime experience without the sudden changes in volume and tempo that might otherwise startle or excite a child that you're trying to get (and then keep) asleep.
