Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

Victor Ruiz has been riding high on the crest of a wave with remixing Luzon - Baguio Track to great acclaim, to appearing on Herblut, Electric Ballroom and Sprout.

D-Nox again is causing a major fuss with his productions (both solo and working with studio partner Beckers) on Suara, Tronic and his own Sprout imprint to name just a few, and the D-Nox & Beckers remix of Quivver riding high in the Beatport techno charts as we speak.

Lets start with ‘Arise'. The beautiful blend of tinkling light arps and big phat bass sounds combine beautifully. Some tracks just come along and cause major devastation, and this is one of those!Press play, listen, and smile!

'Music' (feat. Beckers & Alex Stein) is a solid gem, where the emotive vibes flow lusciously, while the bass wraps you up like a comforting blanket of sound. This is a melodic gem and a half!

Rounding things off nicely, we find 'In Between'. This skippy beat laden moodier affair still oozes melodies and fuses the darker side with the light. Hot stuff!

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

Olivier Mateu (Rodriguez Jr.) will be the first to admit it; he’s never satisfied. From his time as a mathematics student in his nascent rave days in the French city of Montepellier, to the itchy musical feet that would only grow as the years progressed, and his time as one-half of influential live act The Youngsters on Laurent Garnier’s FComs label, he’s always striven to push himself to the next level – both creatively and technically.

With each release, you can simultaneously get the sense of an exquisitely talented artists who is grafting to get the most out of himself and his machines, while being astonished at the creativity and intricate sound design of his work to create stirring dancefloor-ready compositions that sound just as good a club or festival, as they do through a pair of headphones during a home listening session.

The generous four-track work is lead by title track ‘Petropolis’ - a master study in tension and release, the stripped back techno beats, summon the kind of sweat-dripping off-the-walls transcendental rave experience that’ll have you grinning for days afterwards. ‘Capitelle’, is vintage Rodriguez Jr., uplifting and melancholic in equal doses and is propelled by a muscular, compression-heavy bassline that builds towards a sublimely trippy crescendo.

The first sneak peek from the Frenchmen’s upcoming album, ‘Cily’ sees the tempo drop into dreamy ‘90s house territory, with subtle references to the classic French touch sound, but re-imagined in Rodriguez Jr.'s own fresh original way.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2010 with huge support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, John Digweed and Dave Clarke, Ireland’s Ian O'Donovan has gone on to achieve great feats as an artist. Ian has forged a unique style within the techno scene, blending a touch of the past with his melodic sound and moulding it into place with top level production. Ian has reworked classics like Inner City's 'Good Life' and collaborated with legends like John Digweed along with a string of top solo releases, which have won favour with industry titans like Richie Hawtin and Carl Cox. After standout early releases on Detone and KMS, 2015 sees Ian O'Donovan's stock once more on the rise, fuelled further by the signing of inimitable techno cut 'Vortex' to Adam Beyer's global phenomenon Drumcode Records; an indication that this timeless producer is only now entering his stride. The ‘Realm Of Consciousness’ voyage commences with Tale Of Us’ Lies - a fitting introduction with
quivering keys and restrained percussion that engenders an ominous suspense ahead of Monoloc’s
enigmatic industrial techno crunch, Phoenix. Shifting through the haunting chords of Recondite’s dynamic
Murphy’s Law, to the brooding synth of Poseidon by Ukrainian duo Woo York, the realisation of Afterlife
utopia is upon us. The repetitive, mesmerising synth and effective reverb that Somne creates with Triangle
is an odyssey within itself. From there, John Hester’s expertly woven ‘Logan’ is a feverish techno stab that
transverses through the emotional senses, transitioning to Locked Groove’s adroitly crafted Emeralds, to
Ryan James Ford’s ambient, albeit percussive, techno cut Toree Bahrstad. Die Wiederkehr is the outcome
of Obscure Shape & SHDW’s collaboration, which incorporates facets of techno and trance that have
been shaped with real guile and finesse. Mind Against round off the compilation with Gravity - a
mystifying ambience and a fitting title as we touch back down to planet earth.

Why do we tell stories? 

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs. 

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human. 

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Rags To Riches, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

JOBE (Connaisseur, Selador) is up next with ‘Aurora’, exemplifying his both timeless and forward-thinking approach to production. A killer sub line takes hold over cosmic atmospheres.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…
