Back and fresh on the release circuit for 2k18 is Berlin-based Jose Antonio Garcia Soler, better known to his friends and followers by his artistic nom de guerre KID SIMIUS. The KID proudly presents his FLASHBACK EP, a heartwarming monster of a single featuring no-one less than the beloved band outfit KILNAMANA comprised of Enda Gallery and KID SIMIUS' brother Miguel Garcia Soler. With the original version of Flashback KID SIMIUS and KILNAMANA present a tender, yet highly emotional slow jam, a modernistic take on contemporary Future R'n'B and Urban Soul accompanied by epic synth leads, a sparse electronic and surely beatmaker influenced foundation. It's electrifying chorus touches hearts from deep within. On a remix tip for Flashback is NICONE. The German producer who's been stirring up dancefloors throughout the past decade with releases on labels such as Stil Vor Talent, Katermukke and his very own imprint Dantze. His take on Flashback beams us straight to the very center of a buzzing dancefloor, implementing a warm yet hypnotic feel to his musical interpretation whilst sending punters to a next lexel of ecstasy with large scale build-ups and crystalline synth lines. Closing the EP with his remix is KALIPO, a Berlin-based Bavarian known for his complex and intricate take on club music under this moniker as well as for his activities in the highly successful German IndieElectro-staple Frittenbude for more than decade. Sabo’s and his label Sol Selectas returns after its summer holiday with a stunning new EP from Djuma Soundsystem, who has collaborated on one of the tracks with Westerby and other with Australian artist Western. Both Djuma Soundsystem and Westerby are from Copenhagen and have previously made numerous collaborations on the Get Physical label and Chapter 24 Records.

"Djuma Soundsystem is also a successful solo artist who boasts a back catalogue including music signed to many imprints such as Parquet, Rebirth, Crosstown Rebels, Tenampa, and My Favorite Robot Records.

Western has previously made numerous appearances on Sol Selectas working alongside Uone, and also signed other tracks to labels such as KATERMUKKE and Stil Vor Talent.

Complementing the two originals are three remixes from Sobek, Fake Mood and Kincaid, who each bring their own individual flavour to the EP. Black Coffee has been heavily supporting the Sobek remix during his summer residency in Ibiza. 

The original tracks on the EP were inspired by a safari trip in South Africa. With the bird sounds in the first track, “Saguaro” made in collaboration with Westerby represents the jungle atmosphere created by the vibrant selection of wildlife, and the tribal chants pay homage to the aboriginal natives. The spritely melodies full of intrigue are symbolic of the wide eyed enchanted stairs from excited Western eyes looking upon beautiful foreign landscapes.

Sobek reworks “Saguaro” for the second track on the EP and keeping the main lead synth intact he uses the other parts from the original to construct a new backing track. Refined and stripped back, this alternate version uses the chants more as a distant texture instead of a prominent feature. He also adds dramatic strings to create a sense of progression that builds towards a very impactful breakdown.

Track three “Kawahagi” made in collaboration with Western is representative of the South Aftrican weather with tribal drums being the pitter-patter of rain, and leads to the drama of the breakdowns ominous bassline that looms like an overcasting storm cloud. Starting off light and breezy then moving towards the darker more intense ending, this dramatic cut changes like the extreme weather conditions in the South African countryside.

Fake Mood provides the fourth track with their remix of “Kawahagi” using a more uptempo groove and clear focus on sequenced percussion in comparison to the live percussion loop of the original. Adding their own melody part, the vibe of this remix is uplifting with a dance floor focused structure that’s got an epic pad sound to further heighten the atmosphere.

Finishing the EP is Sol Selectas home grown talent Kincaid, who takes a very distinctive approach to his remix focusing of the chants and percussion of the original, but not without the addition of his own ethereal pads and quirky acid line. Using FX to create some unusual textures, his tech-inspired remix for some will no doubt be the highlight of the release."

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With ‘Rebirth', Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists all across the world to bring these themes to life, the seventh and final iteration in this compilation series.

South African star Bruce Loko (Get Physical, Freerange) opens proceedings with the deep, melodious textures of Cyclone, whipping up the ethereal eye of the storm. Chapter 24 regular Kieran Apter is next, making good the tension with the impactful 6.10.21 Break. Such is the power of this track that it propels the listener into new sonic dimensions.

Kostakis (Get Physical, Katermukke) offers up Xerxes, which is equally big and conjures up the dusty, mysterious and impenetrable planes of the desert. Meanwhile, Acumen returns to the imprint in collaboration with Pontias. Shower for Hours is a pumping, techy number bound to get the dancefloor bouncing before opening out into a euphoric peak.

The compilation closes out with a high quality trio. Label favourite KatrinKa delivers the typically deep groove of ABAF. DJ Zombi (Beat Boutique) takes things further down into a dreamy and blissful space with Steph. The honour of closing out the final Seven Stories befalls Hope Recordings and Soundgarden legend Nick Warren and the talented Nicolas Rada, who revisit Anton Dhouran’s Valhalla Rising. Their Edition is fittingly deep, transportative and dramatic.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away one final time...

Premiere: Elfenberg - Mawenzi [Stil Vor Talent]

After the great success of Fanaya Part 1 being played and supported by Sebastien Leger, Hernan Cattaneo, Megablast, Rodriguez Jr, David Mayer, + many more, we decide to make more remixes of this wonderful tune.

For this reason this unique vocal track had to be remixed by Robbie´s favorites producers: Zakir and Fulltone delivering this fire remix package of magical sounds and emotional elements.

Fulltone remix appears as more dark emotional affair featuring space synth sounds always with beautiful music influence as always Fulltone does. We love his music, always quality deep edge vibes.

Zakir remix blown us aways the first time we listen, it has a powerful groove with stunning percussion, acidic bassline, trippy melodic arpeggios and vocal glitches that create a funny jammin story between the vocal and the groove. All around a great interpretation very different form the original.
