Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Voyage & Return, Chapter 24 returns with seven tracks collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life. 

This broad-ranging edition of the series spans storytelling electronica from Peruvian Luis Leon, while NO GRAVITY and Olivier Weiter offer two variations on the broken beat theme. Meanwhile, label newcomers Yacine Dessouki & Alani make their own contribution with the organic house of the powerful opening track. 

Elsewhere big dancefloor cuts are offered by QUARTZ and Several Definitions, before deft emotional composition from Christopher Ivor brings the compilation to a clean and satisfying close.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories. 

And so, as the storyteller utters that age-old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Atmosphere’s head honcho, Nico Morano, is back with a release on his own imprint presenting two powerful tracks for those peak-time moments. Nico Morano is Belgian’s biggest house dj at this moment, playing over 100 gigs and hosting for a second year in row his own stage on Tomorrowland this summer. Epirus has been tested on numerous occasions by Nico himself and those wrecked dance floors are the proof that this might be his most forceful track by far. The chords working nicely together with that mysterious melody on a techno-ish kick & bass combo just does the trick. And then we didn’t talk about that break yet! Well just go listen for yourself and play this one out loud.

Icarus is a track full of emotion, as the famous Greek legend, this track tells a story with a lot of tention and feel for drama. The song starts with a long dj-friendly intro, slowly building up into a dramatic break with heavy distorted synths towards an energetic dance floor oriented drop powered by a most effective arpeggiator sound.
