The Lovepod

This brand new episode of Lazpod, the first in AGES, was inspired by seeing Stevie Wonder in concert last week. He reminded me that, in this time of trouble around the world, the one thing that keeps us sane and together is... love.
 
For many years I have been adding and subtracting songs from this compilation... my ultimate collection of love songs. These are songs about the joy of being in love and in some cases, they depict the despair we feel when we are without love.

I discovered whilst making this that you cant beat the classics and every time I tried to add in a fresher, "cooler" track, it just didn’t stand up against the rest. So, here it is, the return of Lazpod. I hope you can feel the love vibes and enjoy this one over years to come.

Our own Paul Nolan's July mix for #mymusichouse was so good it convinced us to build a whole series around it with the same concept!

Telling Tales is a series of podcasts giving one of the label family, one of our remixers, or one of our headliners an opportunity to deliver to us a story in sound.

The idea is for the podcast to tell a tale; to take the listener in surprising directions from one emotion to the other; to end up somewhere unforeseen, somewhere new.

We only put things out when we have something to say, when there are new moments to be had and new meanings to make sense of. These podcast mixes are sure to separate the signal from the noise!

We recently teamed up with Beatport to offer a
remix contest. The general public had the
opportunity to go into AIRWAVES, one of the
lead singles from their album. After going
sthrough over 500 submissions we are pleased
to present our top 3 winners alongside a remix
we commissioned ourselves by one of
Amsterdam’s most talented new additions to
the scene, TSEPO.

VALENZUELA from Chile really impressed us
with how he took the original and transformed it
into what could be a timeless house classic.
We were thrilled to learn after judging the
remixes that MARTEN SUNDBERG hails from
the home of Kompakt – Cologne! His
reanimation of AIRWAVES is an elegant roller
that will appease any romantic into techno.
Italy’s MANENT was voted by the fans as
being their favourite mix and we have to agree
– he turned the cut into a peak time roller
coaster that is fit for play in any DJ crate.

Here is a fact: Peacocks live in dense, forested areas where they roost in trees and gather together in flocks called “parties.” They seduce with their dance and their distinctive calling voices. In allusion to the mysterious bird, Klassified Records is corresponding to the peacock’s livelihood and is back with a second volume of The Feathers’ Eyes compilation.

Brought to you by Klassified founders RAMMÖ and Parallells, ‘Les Terres de Tawa’ is a collaboration from the four childhood friends from the South of France. An energetic and rocky tune combining vibrant guitars to groovy beats.


This marks RAMMÖ’s debut on their label. After a busy year touring around Asia and Colombia, performing at festivals such as The Monastery, Klassified Music Festival or Bali Spirit Festival the two friends start the year with a banging tune and have a lot of projects coming up.

PREMIERE: Les Terres de Tawa - RAMMÖ & Parallells [Klassified]

Having previously featured on Eskimo Recordings' 2018 compilation 'The Purple Collection’ as one half of Languages, Franz Matthews returns to the label alongside fellow Berliners Local Suicide with 'Meditation / Tutan Jamon', 2 tracks of heady disco that join the dots between the German capital and the sun soaked souks of North Africa.

Despite living on the same street for 4 years Franz Matthews and Brax Moody and Vamparela from Local Suicide only met recently through their common friend Sam Berdah (Days of Being Wild, Club Bizarre). Making up for lost time, the trio soon found themselves bonding in the studio, digging into their love of both the esoteric and travelling, and together channelled those passions into 2 spiritually infused numbers.
 
'Meditation'was the first result of this inspired partnership, appropriately recorded at the same time that Matthews was also recording music for a meditation app, and features a freeform stream of consciousness from Vamparela over a suitably hypnotic backing of wistful guitars and breezy rhythms. 'Tutan Jamon' meanwhile shares its DNA with recent Eskimo releases by the likes of Simple Symmetry and SHMLSS, the track built around a couple of very Egyptian influenced riffs and comes in two distinct versions.
 
Between his production studio MOWD, his duo Languages, and his solo electronic project, Franz Matthews keeps himself busy. Making Berlin his hometown for the past 5 years, the Franco-German producer and DJ has always kept one hand in the Indie Dance world, while the other wanders in more Psychedelic Pop realms, a winning combination that's seen him release music on imprints such as Eskimo Recordings, Days of Being Wild, Rockets & Ponies.
 
Local Suicide, aka DJs and producers Brax Moody and Vamparela, meanwhile have made a name for themselves putting on some of the most infamous underground parties Berlin has to offer, running their acclaimed blog and still finding time to make waves with their productions, a wild fusion of new wave, acid, slow techno and post-disco that has seen them work with the likes of Rodion, Mijo and Curses in recent years.

More than ten years in the biz and still young of age is Krink, our latest addition to the Upon.You Records family. Known for his unique, versatile production style the Berlin-based producer has built up a back catalogue with releases and remixes on labels like Hold Your Ground, URSL and Form Resonance amongst others over the past decade, has travelled the world as a DJ, awing audiences whenever he's on the decks – or performing live.

With the opening title track „It Goes On“ we see Krink providing a deep, spatial and spaced out late night banger both informed by MinimalHouse and DubTechno, later crossing over into dark'ish Techno territories before beautiful, panoramic string arrangements transfer crowds into uplifting, overwhelmingly emotional (Neo)Trance-infused realms. This is a masterpiece in terms of electronic storytelling.

Following up is „Organ“, a tune amalgamating more widescreen athmospheres and the traditional craft of raw, unprocessed German MinimalHouse graced by a deep low-end pump, percussive main motif and clean, hyperfuturistic filter abuse for lovers of a style once defined as Intelligent Techno somewhen in the 90s.

Furthermore „Dawn“ presents a slightly darker, more muscular studio approach to Krink's work, aiming at heaving, fever'ish Techno floors in hypnotrance with detailed percussion elements and finally providing ultimate relief through a warm, friendly, all embracing combination of organic vintage bass and dreamy, masterly crafted melodic arrangements.

Finally „Nano“ brings forth a solid, bass-heavy TechHouse foundation for a start only to introduce the most tender piano pads throughout the first breakdown, building things up harking back to the clean sci-fi filters of „Organ“ whilst intricate, interweaving melodies provide a floating, hovering vehicle for punters  souls to drift off into a timeless nirvana of electronic pulses and pure sound.
