The farmlands of East Anglia might not be the first place you’d check for a Junglist heavyweight. But, when you realise that this is the area that gave us dons like DJ Dominator, Bladerunner, T>I and original Moving Shadow legends Flytronix you might decide to check your prejudices. Saxxon is part of a dynasty. Having left a trail of releases though labels such as Spearhead, AudioPorn and Natty Dub, we’re really please to welcome him back to V as we celebrate our 25th year with a stellar EP that perfectly showcases his sound in 2018.

This 5-track release holds characteristics typical to Saxxon, drum-heavy, jazzy, and most importantly, the ability to tear up any dancefloor. Although tracks hold the distinctive ‘Saxxon’ sound, there’s more than enough to make each track unique. Having released his highly anticipated ‘Zen’ EP earlier in 2020 on Hospital Records, Unglued continues his explosive ascension with a jaw-breaking four-track follow up: ‘Total XTC’. With roots cemented in jungle, breaks and hardcore, Unglued injects his signature bassline badness into each tearout track, topped with euphoric classic house samples in the title track ‘Total XTC’, to hair-raising vocals from Truthos Mufasa in ‘War Dance’ featuring Whiney.

Total XTC fires us through a prism of late 80s nostalgia with pitched-up soulful vocal samples from Charvoni’s feel-good classic house groover ‘Always There’. Dreamy pads and playful vintage notes set the scene. Soothingly sustained vocals swim over raw, metallic, jungle-infused drums that introduce the sub-destroying drop. A certified rave anthem that will have all the heads entranced.

‘War Dance’ raises adrenaline as Manchester-based Truthos Mufasa lays down slick and weighty bars that ricochet off skippy old skool-style drums right in the eye of the storm. Together, Unglued and Whiney conjure up bass-rumbling chaos as we’re pushed ‘right off the tracks’ with double-barrelled artillery in the heat of battle.

Charging in with twisted swagger, ‘Got 2 Have’ is a squelchy bass-ridden stepper that screams Unglued all over. While ‘Pigeon Funk’ swoops in and stares you down with electrically-charged squarks and funk-fuelled flare.

Introduced to jungle at an early age by his influential uncle Stoppy, Unglued demonstrates his ability to simultaneously stick and unpick these roots in his powerfully dynamic ‘Total XTC’ EP by fusing the old-skool style with his unique, forward-thinking flair.

Unglued’s rise since his anthemic ‘If We Ever’ remix, has brought in over a hundred intercontinental shows since 2019, and regular support from some of the biggest players in the game, including Andy C, Noisia and Randall. Unglued is no stranger to spins on national airwaves, with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac awarding him Hottest Record In The World for ‘Born In 94’, as well as regular support from Rene LaVice and Charlie Tee on Kiss Fresh. The very definition of a legend, Mampi Swift has been involved in the drum & bass scene since the early 90’s. It was in 1990 that Swift started DJing and found himself behind the counter of Lucky Spin records. With access to the studio next door and an in-house engineer, Swift jumped at the valuable opportunity to start learning how to produce. Releases soon started filtering out with labels like Suburban Base, True Playaz, Trouble On Vinyl & Frontline all taking tracks.
 
1997 saw the launch of Charge Recordings, and a slur of releases that saw him rise meteorically to the top of the DnB tree. With the release of ‘The One’, Swift became a household name and he showed no signs of slowing up, following that up with the likes of ‘Hi Tek’, ‘Touch Of J’, ‘Jaws’ and ‘Trippin’. The label went from strength to strength and has since seen releases from Fresh, Friction, Blame, Sigma, Gridlok and more.
 A pioneer of the double drop style of DJing alongside Andy C, his unmistakeable presence behind the decks has formed the back bone of many a line up from the UK to the States and everywhere in between. A true originator he has influenced and shaped the scene like few others.
 
After a couple of years out, Mampi Swift & Charge Recordings are back in the biggest way. With his latest releases gaining support from the likes of Andy C, MistaJam, Friction, Hype, Crissy Criss & Bailey. Tracks such as 'Gangster', 'Soldiers' & 'The Silence' have been destroying dance floors worldwide! Fast forward to Autumn 2013 and surely a career highlight for Swift as his monstrous remix of Dizzee Rascal's 'I Dont Need A Reason' took his profile to another level. The track was featured heavily on both mainstream & underground radio, and was critically acclaimed to be "The most most disgusting slice of D&B in the last 5 years!" - Zane Lowe.

With an international tour commencing in the first half of the year and a brand new studio to work in as well as exciting solo projects and inspiring collaborations lined up.  Expect big things in the future - There is so much more to come including a brand new roster of incredible Charge artists.
