The show name is based on an artwork by Jeremy Deller, commissioned as part of a Dylan Thomas 100 project [Pictured] More Poetry is Needed is plastered on a wide wall at the back end of Swansea's Quadrant Shopping Centre. A reminder to commercial shoppers and the lines of parked cars: everybody and everywhere could do with more poetry.

702 years ago this week, exiled from Florence, Dante Alighieri died amongst the shimmering gold mosaics of Ravenna and was laid to rest in the city at the Church of San Pier Maggiore.

In the third and final part of Dante's Divine Comedy, he is guided by Beatrice through the heavenly abode of blessed angels, Paradiso.

Join me for an hour of readings of Paradiso and many transcendental anthems and poems of the upperworld.

Henry Earnest - Forever 2

In “Tom’s House”, a new audio-drama from artist and writer Jacob Dwyer, we listen to the meanderings of someone who’s returned home for the first time in 15 years. Walking up Haddon Drive he spots the house of an old friend, Tom. The front door is open, so he goes inside. Wandering around the empty Tudor cottage - making cups of tea, rearranging CD collections and zoning in on the minutiae of domestic space - he ruminates on ideas of emotional intimacy, friendship and grief.

"Hello? Hello?" echoes Jacob's voice, searching for a connection inside empty rooms and memories. As we move through the story, the house shifts slowly back to the realm of the living, while upending ideas gestate in Jacob's mind, like bodies floating within bodies. "THE BABY IS LEGIT UPSIDE DOWN!"

With his field recording equipment, much like his trusty Canon HF10 camera, Jacob evokes the cosmic: at one moment zooming in on microscopic dust particles of dead skin moving through the dank air in murmuration, whilst panning out to catch a poetic, universal overview the next.

"Tom’s House" incorporates voice, foley, field recordings and an original soundtrack composed by K. Freund, Kareem Lotfy, Zuza Banasińska and Jacob Oostra.

John has been around, he’s 83. I saw him in Utrecht at the Tivoli last Monday, still rocking. There goes Johnny Cale, the browning banana, still showing his bright yellowish glow.

On Saturday 17 May Charlie was joined by Mark (@mtoallennon) of @noisincollective on the radio. 

We presented an hour of poetry and music for the bright threshold period between spring and summertime. It was the month of May and the days were only getting longer. Join us as we strolled around, through the ending and beginning of things, listening to the bird-chirps, smelling the aromas rising out of the foxgloves. The pollen count was high, and we are buzzing like the bumblebees.

MORE POETRY IS NEEDED: TIME GOES BY ON THE RINGWEG

Saturday 21st June 2025, the longest day of the year and the day the Ringweg or Ring road of Amsterdam, the A10, is being shut down and closed for a day of parties and other frivolity. All to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam. 

So in this episode I celebrated with the music and poetry of the motorway, the great loops, the passage of vehicles, stuck in traffic, or fuelled up and cruising on their way, the entry, the exit, the endlessness, can you smell the tarmac?
