Rush Of The Rainforest

This is the first time I've covered/remixed/whatevered something in a long while and, notably, it's the only instance in which I've been proud of the result.  This particular piece is a remix of the stage theme of Pangu Lagoon.  It takes the melodic elements of both versions of the track and brings them to what I imagined as a third "act" in that particular level.

The vast majority of this track was completed over a sleepless night, with an additional week or so spent on listening to it and fine-tuning it.  In spite of (or perhaps because of) the fact that I didn't create the melody for this one, I found myself getting strangely creative, trying more "complete" rhythms than I usually do for drum loops, adding in a staccato guitar to complete the movement of the chorus, layering my lead synth, and just generally polishing the piece, in ways I normally don't, as if it was second nature.  Maybe I oughta' cover stuff more often.

(If you haven't played Freedom Planet and you like action-packed platformers, I'd really recommend you give it a go, it's excellent!)

I recently got a Roland U-220! It's really a cool module, contains some of Capcom's most revered sounds for one, especially in some of the drums and the guitars. It really is a proto-Sound Canvas of sorts, containing many of the sounds that would later appear on the SC-55 and be popularized that way.

Obviously the U-220 is used quite heavily here (drums, synth brass lead, guitars, mallets, choir pad and the bass), but I combined a lot of other stuff I own too - namely a lot of SC-8850 (guitars, more drums, pads, leads, mallets and strings), a bit of M1 (just the brass stabs), Wavestation (just the lead in the outro) and Quadrasynth (the piano part in the outro)
