B3. Chelidon Frame - Transience [GRFTPS018]

Created on the occasion of 13th Annual ReVIEWING Black Mountain College conference and the exhibition Leo Amino at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, Asheville, NC.

The work uses sound as representation of Leo Amino’s sculptures. As some of his works may already resemble musical instruments in their form, like those made with wood and wire (he often also titled them as numbered “Compositions”), or scores – in general his “refractional” sculptures made with light, color, and transparent materials bring to mind the quality similar to music. Thus the piece focuses on the idea of transforming this lucidity of color and form into another medium and re-materializing Amino’s art works in sound. On one hand it can give the opportunity for the audience to discern some other aspect of Japanese-American artist’s work than the visual ones, on the other – it could be a chance for people who are not able to see his work to experience it in some way. Playing with the idea of invisibility, created “soundscapes” (with the help of professional musicians) act more like mirrors than copies.

The piece was created with musicians and composers: AnimaeNoctis, Wayne DeFrehr, Chelidon Frame, Kristaps Freimanis, Sylwia Gorak, Luis Guita, Roland Kuit, Eileen McLoughin, Tim Reed, and shan-uh-kees.

KapTep is the ambient\drone project from US-based producer Derek Carter. (Sullivan, Illinois). His compositions are a blend of synth layers, loops, effects, and field recordings with the intent of creating an ever-evolving soundscape. The concept behind the KapTep project was to try creating the style of emotional music that he wanted to listen to himself. Every track should evoke an emotion to which you can write your own story. Rain, static hiss, pops, and crackles are often the foundation layered under melancholy, dreamy compositions.

Chitra Podcast #13 Ambient Mix by KapTep

In this new episode of @scenecityeu residency, nXdiving (@dammadame1) and ₮EO₮₩A₩KI (@t-e-o-t-w-a-w-k-i) draw an overview of Lyon’s music scene through 17 tracks released on 16 different labels of the city. These labels, as well as other relevant labels which do not appear in this mix, are very prolific in Lyon and they constantly help the scene to evolve by gathering and promoting local, national and international artists creating a fertile ground for creativity and exchange.

“Kula is a symbolic exchange generating syncretic cosmologies. Sound and polyphonic embrace, a mixture of connections and celestial atmospheres.
Kula as a digital-tribal ritual amplifies new forms of life than explodes within vibrant environments.
Kula is synthetic-synesthetic meditation that escapes the boundaries of anthropocentrism and then dances among mechanical ghosts, ancestral loops, and brilliant comets.
A mad explosion of endless loops where new constellations arise for a deep inner journey. Reciprocity and gift are Kula’s private nouns reacting to and for the encounter: a loop uncovering a ceremony of restitution.
Cosmogonies, cosmologies and cosmos rotate within a plural inhabiting for a spiritual experience beyond the end of the world and within transcendent endings of infinite s-cul(p)tures. “

"KULA" | album preview (out January 23)

The List is a site specific multichannel sound sculpture that broadcast an algorithmic composition made from the numbers included in UNITED Against Refugee Deaths’ List of Deaths. Lasting around 2 and a half hours, can be arranged in a 4 channel / 8 channel surround system or in a specific configuration for the place that will host it.

It’s first installment has been the main hall of the Bocconi University during MEMI Fest in Milan (11/09/2019 - 14/09/2019).

This excerpt is a stereo reduction of the original 8 channel sonification, concerning days between 01/01/2017 and 05/05/2018 (original segment title: "01_01_2017_05_05_2018")

The List [stereo reduction - excerpt]

Chelidon Frame is an experimental electronic music project that mainly works with field recordings, radio interferences, guitars, and processed sounds.

His installations are experience-based and suggest a dialogue between the location (both virtual and physical) and the sounds proposed, aiming to deliver a message in the simpler yet most effective way. The use of code, data analysis, and data-driven sounds, allow information to be experienced anew. 

In his studio works and live sets, different layers of sounds - guitars, synthesizers, and custom-made instruments - pile up creating unexpected new soundscapes. He is the founder of the Asynchronous Drone Orchestra.
