Sein is the debut collaborative effort between Italian composer and improviser, Demetrio Cecchitelli, and American sound artist, Nicholas Maloney aka Blanket Swimming. Sein (German for “To Be”) began as a series of contemplative, minimal tape sketches that were then transferred back and forth between the artists as new layers of instrumental improvisation, field recording, and spontaneous object recordings were added to create a textured, ever-changing space.

To live and exist is a continual, spontaneous act. Sein adds to this dialogue of what it means to compose in the moment, to listen, and to create fluid symbolism through sound. Though separated by the distance of an ocean, the two performers were able to communicate via this spontaneously arising symbolism to weave a narrative, imaginative and dreamlike, yet concrete and lucid. When this auditory/fleeting sensory space is experienced, the meaning of Sein begins to appear quite literally.

Nicholas Maloney is a musician and sound artist currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Since 2015, he has recorded ambient music under the moniker Blanket Swimming and since 2019 has released sound art and environmental recording works under his given name. He has been released on labels such as Grisaille, Modern Concern, ROHS! Records, Giraffe Tapes and many others. He also curates the labels Warm Milk Recordings and Asonu.

Demetrio Cecchitelli (1997) is a composer and musician mainly active in the field of electronic and electroacoustic music. Released on Healing Sound Propagandist, Whitelabrecs, Sounds Against Humanity, among others. He has collaborated with theatre company Motus and the director Cecilia Lentini.

Helen thought the repeating piano phrase reminded her of an old fashioned treadle weaving loom. So the track is a sort of homage to those who laboured at these devices to create fabric and clothing for the masses. The painting is "Weaver" by Vincent Van Gogh.

"Spine of Destiny" follows the harrowing journey of Lucksy, Sariandi, and Alestein as they search for their lost friend, Thorgar. Their quest leads them to Bremen, where they are met with the devastating sight of an onslaught against innocent villagers, a massacre seemingly caused by Thorgar himself. Determined to uncover the truth, they encounter Fiztik, a gnome who guides them into the depths of the Underdark.

This electronic ambient and downtempo album captures the essence of their perilous journey. Most of the field recordings were made by pointing a microphone outside the window of a room, so in that sense, 'pictures' also means "landscapes cut out in a frame".

Low Motion. Originally titled “Slow motion” until I realized there are thousands of songs titled “Slow Motion”. I dropped the “S”. This is “Low Motion”.

Go Home. I really am enjoying myself. I’m having a good time, but truth be told I really just want to go home.

One Foot. In this life sometimes the best we can do is put one foot in front of the other.

The Day the Internet Went Away. Inspired by a power outage. What did we used to do before the internet?

Geraniums. I think they are one of my favorite flowers for some reason, I don’t know why.

Seventy Eights. As in 78 RPM records where it all started. There is something fascinating about taking little clips of sound and making them into something else.

The micro-cassette Dictaphone is used to create sounds evoking nostalgia and melancholy. Throughout history, alchemists have captivated our minds with their quests to turn base materials into gold and seek the philosopher's stone. Their work was shrouded in metaphor and mystery, embodying a desire to understand the universe's hidden truths. Similarly, this collection of sounds endeavors to evoke the essence of that magical process. Each composition is a carefully crafted distillation of emotions, imagery, and ideas, resonating with the transformative powers attributed to the alchemical arts.

In Alchemies, Paul Beaudoin blends orchestral textures with glitch and noise elements, creating a sonic alchemy that mirrors the ancient quest for transformation. These contrasting sound worlds—organic and synthetic, refined and raw—come together in a seamless dialogue, embodying the fusion of disparate materials that the alchemists sought.

Participation mystique refers to the innate human connection to symbolic and imaginative experiences. This symbolic realm exists before or alongside our ability to think analytically or rationally. The idea is strongly linked to projection, as these symbolic or mythic elements naturally extend themselves into the world around us—into people, places, and things, just like how we unconsciously assign color to what we see.

Participation mystique is not just a psychological concept, but an aesthetic principle – a lens through which we perceive art as more than just something we observe; it becomes something inhabited.

In artistic terms, participation mystique can be thought of as a dissolving boundary between the self and the image. In this perspective, any manifestation of art can be perceived not just as an external object, but as an extension of the viewer’s unconscious. Colors, shapes, and atmosphere resonate with inner archetypes – mythical, primordial, emotional – before the mind can name them. This is why abstract compositions can seem hauntingly familiar, or why certain symbols – like a spiral, a doorway, or a shady forest – draw out something ancient, deep, and unconscious from us.

Gentle textural soundscapes trace the quiet shift in season, evoking warmth, stillness, and the beauty of impermanence. A sonic reflection on the passage of time, memory, and the subtle charm of change.

Christoph Vogel (Ghostloop) about his album: “It’s a collection of nine ambient pieces — soundscapes shaped by personal moments and quiet shifts I experienced over the past year, many of them spent in nature.

I worked with field recordings I captured during that time, letting them carry traces of place and memory. While writing, I also began building my Eurorack modular system, slowly integrating its sounds into the tracks as they took shape.

'Almost Autumn' reflects a quiet cycle of the year — the slow transitions, inner stillness, and changing atmosphere that come with time passing”.

Christoph Vogel, known as Ghostloop (Germany), weaves immersive soundscapes shaped by the serene rhythms of nature. Drawing from the ambient textures of field recordings and grounding them with deep, fluid basslines, his compositions echo the quiet moods of Northern Germany and the Baltic Sea coast. Rooted in a deep sense of place, Ghostloop’s music invites listeners to pause, drift, and sink into gentle, emotive layers of sound.

Almost Autumn

Drift, aka Alessandro Ferrario, defines his style as “Slow-motion electroacoustic sound paintings”, this definition comes from the tempo he uses, 40 BPM with 4/4 time signature, the main instrument he uses, an upright piano, and the layers crafted using the instruments you can find in orchestra, cello, viola, violin and double bass most of the times. He then elaborates all the patterns, adding modern era VSTs to create layers, like a painter does with paint.

In “Fragments of a Distant Now”, the artist explored time and memories, unfolding slow rhythms and digital manipulation to create textured atmospheres, which, like memories, can convey either relaxation or tension. Using delays, echoes, reverbs, and distortions, he crafts a sense of glitch in sound that mirrors the imperfections of fading memories.

Ambient music seems to be fascinated by nature, oceans and the sky. For this KapTep release I wanted to explore the sky and more importantly all we can’t see, the millions of signals and mysteries that it hides.

I wanted to leave room for the songs to breathe and allow plenty of open spaces within them. At times these compositions may seem empty, that is by design. Although the current environment is to pick a track or two add them to your playlist.

I hope you will spend 49 minutes and listen to this as a body of work, as it was recorded to be listened to in one continuous sitting. In addition to the 6 original tracks there are two wonderful remixes added by Arrival In Eden, and Sacred Seeds.

Numbers Station – I’ve always been fascinated with them. The mystery and intrigue.

Naming the Sky – Melancholy drifting and not a care in the world.

LA Scanner – I simply love the voyeur nature of a cheap scanner.

Cold Luck Moon – Blurred images, sounds and emotions. Plus, three words that don’t mean anything together as a title.

I Need Light – In a world of conflict, doom scrolling and fear… I need light. In fact, I think we all do.

Ambient minimalism is gaining momentum. Some would argue that evoking atmosphere is harder than sequencing beats, and Fragments of Silence is proof. Laden with lush textures and ambient leanings, the album invites deep listening.

This 8-track LP marks the debut collaboration between Synthbiont, Anassimandrus, and Sacred Seeds: three artists with distinct sensibilities, united by a shared affinity for ambient, experimental, and dub techno sounds. Their convergence sets the tone for a singular, immersive experience.

Fragments of Silence is not background music. It’s a serious body of work that commands attention. It’s an hour-long descent into a vacuum chamber. An environment that evolves, coils, shifts, and builds toward dissonance and stillness.

Each track is grounded in a strong atmospheric character, unfolding with deliberate progression. The album leans heavily into experimental minimalism, imagine dark tunnels, ominous energy fields, and brooding landscapes.

Fragments of Silence is one of those albums that explores the intersection of distinct creative temperaments, marked by structure, mood, and experimentation. The result is an album that flows with intention and feeling, creating a space that listeners can fully sink into.

Sacred Seeds is an ambient electronic music project by Wasim, founded in 2014 in Calicut, Kerala (India). Blending synthesis, field recordings, and experimental sound design, Sacred Seeds’ music explores the interplay between organic and electronic textures.

Sacred Seeds has performed at renowned festivals such as Magnetic Fields, Hilltop Festival, and Bloom in Green, sharing the stage with influential artists like Gaudi, OTT, Suduaya, and Symbolico, and many more.

Synthbiont & Anassimandrus is the ambient/experimental/dub techno project born at the end of 2018 by the collaboration between Nicolò Faggiani and Tommaso Gobbo. Their musical background comes from different musical experiences as DJs, vinyl collectors, and founders of EMC series. Their performances and music are composed through the elaboration of different digital and analog sources, processed field recordings, and sampling to create unique soundscapes.
