In AEON007D, Denis Horvat steps up to proudly carry the AEON torch with his EP ‘My Body’.
They say good things come in threes, and this is certainly no exception. Having previously released on Noir Music, Upon You, Get Physical and Souvenir, the Danish producer has already been recognised for his talents, and this three-tracker continues to exhibit them at their best.

With ‘Prompt’ a steady beat is interrupted by dark pads commanding the track and heaving you into its deliciously sinister core. As the track’s roots grow darker and deeper, don’t be surprised to find yourself putting the track on loop and replaying the story.

‘Phrased’ takes a more minimal approach yet by no means a less effective one – a percussive progression builds before being joined by effortlessly strident staccato, this track simply gets better the more time you give it – and as a true grower not a shower, you can expect it to stick with you long after the last heady shakes of the maracas.

The aptly-named title track ‘My Body’ is certainly sure to fill a dance floor. An enticing taste of what’s to come. Atmospheric synths ebb in and out of a rolling bassline, accompanied by a low gravelly vocal.

Through this EP, it’s evident that Horvat is giving a nostalgic nod to the various genres of music that lured him into production in the first place – fitting really, for a label with the same intention in mind – this EP is a true tribute to quality music, with percussion and slick percussion instead of pretention.

Danish producer, DJ and all around music entrepreneur Kasper Bjørke had a busy 2012, the highlight of which was releasing his ‘Fool’ LP – for many one of the most fully realized and inventive albums of the year. Setting off 2013 in a similar vein, Kasper welcomes the new year with a superb remix package of one of ‘Fool’s’ undoubted highlights – ‘Sunrise’.

The original will be familiar to many – an emotive disco pop gem featuring the talents of Jacob Bellens. The fourth single form the album and third featuring Bellens, Bjørke has clearly developed an affinity for the songwriting and vocal skills of the I Got You On Tape and Murder front man.

Elsewhere on this release hfn music have put together a stellar remix package, featuring the skills of Yuksek, Slow Hands and Bjørke himself. Kasper offers up two other takes - the Alternated Dub and Alternated Vocal versions. Both draw on the electro pop vibe of the original, making full use of the bouncy bass and shimmering synths.
Yuksek, the celebrated French DJ and producer sees ‘Sunrise’ in different shades, developing a euphoric house bomb for the dancers. His two versions - the remix and Dub – build with total confidence before a classic piano house chord progression breaks though.

Last but definitely not least, US hot property Slow Hands twists ‘Sunrise’ into a completely new direction, layering the treated vocals over a lush deep house / Balearic groove to create a woozy slice of aural excellence perfectly in tune with the track title.

Unified by dub's loose sense of space and deep sub-frequencies, CHLLNGR's unique amalgam of soul, pop, stripped-down beats, and decaying atmospheres has earned the Copenhagen-based artist, Steven Jess Borth II, adulation from press and peers alike. The nocturnal, murky worlds of his debut 'Haven' and it's follow-up EP 'Datter' alluded to subtle pop possibilities featuring Borth's soft-touch vocals woven into structures indebted to modern R&B's sleek minimalism and the techniques set forth by dub reggae's chief architects King Tubby, Scientist, among countless other legends. An artist who shines in the collaborative process, Borth's acclaimed debut 'Haven' featured Coco (of Quadron), Aku (of Dragons of Zynth), Teachers, and he has been a consistent cohort of South African MC Spoek Mathambo partnering in composing, production, and touring as Mathambo's multi-instrumentalist secret weapon over the past few years.

Over the past year, CHLLNGR has been working on his next full-length for the LA-based Time No Place label. Recorded at the newly built Red Bull Studios in Copenhagen, Borth took a different approach by recording most of the new record at a legitimate studio as opposed to his previous DIY methods. Again, a collaborative effort: the new album features contributions from up-and-coming vocalist JOSIAHWISE IS THE SERPENTWITHFEET, Grace Hall of Skin Town, Doctor Echo, Dusty Brown and the UK based-MC Dels. Keeping much CHLLNGR's signature moody starkness, his forthcoming LP strives for brave eclecticism, digging deeper into his future-minded soul music explorations.
