For the second chapter of our ‘Fast Music’ series we take a journey through the sounds of jungle. From the 19-year Hospital Records and Med School back catalogue we draw from the core, proving just how deep the roots go in drum & bass of past and present.

With influences of breakbeat, dub and reggae, jungle is at the foundation of some of Hospital’s most prominent dance-floor prowlers. In over 46 tracks, Nu:Tone keeps the energy high, moving through the vocal chop-ups of Logistics and Danny Byrd, the deep basslines of S.P.Y and Total Science and right through to the broken beats of A-Sides and Krakota. Not to mention the likes of Calibre, Commix, Icicle, D*Minds and Detail also inspired by the drum & bass origin, bringing the junglist hype right to the forefront.

YANA Music is more than excited to unleash "Always In Motion", the highly-anticipated new collaboration between Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger after their massive 2019 dancefloor banger "Pressure".  With over 250,000 streams on Spotify alone and support from the scene's heavyweight club and radio DJs, "Pressure" was undoubtedly one of last year's biggest drum & bass tunes.  Following it up was a tall order, but thankfully they have delivered and then some on "Always In Motion".

Continuing to combine his loves of metal and drum & bass, Toronto Is Broken's thundering live drums and distorted guitars are perfectly juxtaposed with Deuce & Charger's emotive vocals and melodic synth work in the verse.  The two production styles then collide to awesome effect in the build with a huge earworm synth riff; one that's destined to be chanted in clubs and at festivals once we fully return to business.  The track's full energy is finally released with a surging drop; the guitars and synths riding on top of super-tight drums, before the insistent vocal hook returns to implant itself in your head.

"Always In Motion" is the third single from Toronto Is Broken’s forthcoming third album "Clare", which marks a new chapter in the Toronto Is Broken sound.  The fusing of low-tuned guitars and live drums with cutting-edge drum & bass energy and precision heard on previous single "Reminisce" is taken to even greater levels on "Always In Motion".  Anticipation levels are quickly rising for the new album and his music from this point on.  For Deuce & Charger meanwhile, "Always In Motion" highlights their deft musicality; the release being an inspired left-turn from their super-melodic sound best encapsulated on this summer's huge "First Light EP" (Lost Together Music), which Data Transmission said made them "a force to be reckoned with in the global dance music scene".

As the hype, schedule and promotional campaign for Toronto Is Broken’s forthcoming, genre-nullifying third album begins to ramp up and skyrocket, we’ve been treated to a real humdinger in the form of a new remix from the expressive, aggressive sonic minds of the exciting, upcoming SyRan duo. Taking the form of  the third single on the highly-promising, imminent ‘Clare’ album, the original cut saw YANA Music head-honcho Toronto Is Broken link up with with the emotive, illustrious singer/producer duo Deuce & Charger for a multi-faceted, wholly unique hybrid of Metalcore and Drum & Bass; a high-octane combination that we’re definitely keen to hear more of.

Then, in come SyRan. The gritty Peterborough-based pairing have seen a stratospheric rise as of late, implementing and showcasing a heralded style of impaling, cataclysmic Jungle-influenced 174 that has been tearing off heads left, right and centre. A permanent fixture in the sets of Andy C and many more, SyRan were quickly picked up by Andy’s legendary RAM Records imprint, first for 2019’s ‘Paradigm’ EP and then two widely-supported singles - ‘Telepathy’ and ‘For You’, which both dropped this year to great critical reception. 

All in all, this is a cracking, seminal meeting of three different sets of artistic qualities, but one that still moulds together perfectly, blending SyRan’s vintage-yet-modern Breakbeat aesthetics and droning, longitudinal bassweight movements with Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger’s copiously brilliant original lick. To say 2020 has been a tumultuous year for artists and record labels is an understatement to say the least, however, Toronto Is Broken's YANA Music imprint has just grown from strength to strength, bringing some of the finest in dancefloor drum & bass to the listener. Originally set up in May 2019 as a means to self-release his own work, Toronto Is Broken's label has now grown into a strong family of artists, honing and nurturing newfound talent such as Coastal, Matt Neux, Vypes, as well as providing a home for some more established acts such as Aktive and Richter.

Celebrating this fact and to round off such a challenging year, YANA Music is proud to announce their first in a line of annual compilation albums: "YANA2020"!
