A native of Elsass in France, Christopher Kah is a self-taught, multi-talented multi-instrumentalist. A truly unique talent, he is also a man for whom the approach is every bit as fundamental as the result.

As notable for his dedication to techno as he is his penchant for classical music, Kah first began composing music in his early teens and possesses over a decade of classical and jazz music experience as an organ player. An obsessive student of sound, Kah’s roots in electronic music can be traced back to an early appreciation of industrial techno — a strand of music that still greatly influences his productions to this very day.

Enamored by the never-ending complexities of electronic music, he began producing his own techno tracks in 2001 and has barely paused for breath since. “ With electronic music you have unlimited banks of sounds; the firstthing I do when I create music, I search for one sound, capture it, and build a track around its very heart”, says Kah. It’s a way of working that’s proved especially fruitful. Aside from releases on his own imprint, Highwav, Kah has also represented some of the techno scene’s most credible and renowned outlets, from Dave Clarke’s White Noise to Terence Fixmer’s Planete Rouge and DJ Hell’s scene-defining Gigolo Records.

In 2018, Kah released his third full-length, Limited Resource. A suitably eclectic listen that epitomised just why he’s such a treasured talent, the album is one that’s based around live performances and maximalist sonic impact, all derived from a minimal set of tools. Earning glowing praise from compatriot Laurent Garnier and media such as DJ Mag in the UK and Groove in Germany, Limited Resource plays out like an electronic note pad, a pad where Kah expressed his deepest, darkest and most personal and vivid music ideas.

With further releases planned on Highwav before the end of the year (including the brilliant ‘Ballet’, which has already been picked up by Amelie Lens and Garnier), he will also be returning to remix duty, with electronic music pioneer Shazz getting the full Christopher Kah treatment.

From a performance perspective, Kah’s shows evolve the concept of traditional “DJing”, as he pairs synths, samplers and drum computers alongside his turntables. ‘’The gear I use is very minimum but elicits a maximum result. Instead of mixing only two tracks simultaneously, I customize the tracks to the way that feels right at that moment. I want to push the mix into another dimension, Closer to the public, and see how they react’’. 
A musician in the truest sense of the word, Christopher Kah is someone who brilliantly encapsulates all that’s great about electronic music. His might be an unconventional way of working, but it’s also one that yields results at an impressively consistent rate.

Having had plenty of time to digest the first trio of “Textures” from Sawlin & Subjected, it’s time to unleash the next three works from EDLX’s newest recruits. 

‘Foreign Awake Pt.1’ set the tone with a series of strung out, spacy vistas. Three chillingly subtle and pensive pieces, far removed from the pair’s usual brew of anxious, distortion-heavy techno productions that can be found on their co-run Vault Series outlet. Using EDLX to step away from the dancefloor a little, ‘Foreign Awake Pt.1’ saw the Berlin-based duo tap into headier climes using loops and tingling atmospheres with the faintest of heartbeats. ‘Foreign Awake Pt.2’ picks up the pace, however, with three more “Textures” halfway between ‘Pt.1’’s ethereal wanderings and the pair’s deeper Vault Series offerings. 

On the A-side “Texture 1.1” and “Texture 1.2” wraps typical Vault tropes with acid-washed melodies and grainy distorted pads, turning two rusty, hydraulic workouts into weirder and warmer dancefloor reliefs. “Texture 5” then, on the B-side, concludes with more yin and yang experiments, pooling ‘Foreign Awake’’s gentler, dream-like sentiments together with punishing bass, splices of hats and mechanical modulations that keep the reverie in check; a must for Sawlin & Subjected fans, and anyone who likes their techno a little on the stranger side.

Seit gut einem Jahr nun sind Lennard Wilkening und Felix Wienek im Duo als LennArt & Federweiss unterwegs. Beide kannten sich von diversen Events und nach einigen  intensiven Nächten back 2 back an den Plattenspielern erkannten sie, dass es an der Zeit sei, ein gemeinsames Projekt zu starten. Im Studio bündelten sie ihre Kreativität und begannen gemeinsam zu Produzieren. Schnell trug ihr Projekt Früchte. Heraus kam der Edit des Tracks „Hurt“ von Johnny Cash , der auf YouTube bereits mehrere hunderttausend Male aufgerufen wurde.

The Grey Area mix is a collection of celebral minimalism from which is a speciality of Robert Hood.   Never before has there been an illustration of the many values of "grey" within the genre we call Minimal.
While Minimal is now a sound all on its own which varies from region to region, deep concentration takes you through the mind of one of it's pioneers for a close analysis of this particular variation. The Grey Area.

The Grey Area title refers to Rob's vision of Detroit techno and electronic music as the sound that occupied the forgotten zones of Detroit, the areas that became utilised for warehouse parties back in the day, and still humm and whirr with the timeless sound of technology long after the actual heavy indutry has gone. There's a soulfully longing thread tying the tracks together, from the opening anonymous tracks to Maurizio's 'M4.5' and on into previously unobserved depths with a slew of exclsuive and unreleased M-Plant style killers this is eactly the kind of selection that has won Mr. Hood a legion of devoted fans across the world, and has massively influenced the sound of the scene's biggest clubs, with Dettmann and Klock's brand of stripped but powerful techno house owing a massive debt to his sound. We're struggling to name many of the tracks here which is one of the best features of this mix, it's so fresh much of it hasn't even seen the light of day yet but we'd be massively grateful if any of the keener ears out there (or Hood himself) would like to send us a tracklist! Especially track 14, or 17, or 21, what the f**k are they?! If the Fabric mix left you asking for something that little bit deeper and nastier you can't sleep on this righteous mix. ESSENTIAL PURCAHSE!
