Fresh off Ruby Skye in San Francisco and USC's massive Paradiso Festival in Washington last week, Christopher Lawrence is gearing up to head to Tahoe, New York and Canada for Motion Notion festival. Summer is kicking off and with it comes a slamming new episode of Rush Hour!

This months guest mix comes from some of Christopher's favorite producers Hypnocoustics which is a partnership project between Joe Studt and Benjamin Wood, two producers from London who have been making electronic music since 2004. Joe & Ben share a diverse musical background; ranging from psychedelic rock/stoner bands and Djing, through to modern music production and classical training. 

Over the last two years, Hypnocoustics have been developing a deep and immersive morning sound packed with hypnotic soundscapes, mesmeric textures, driving percussion and intricate musical arrangements. Performing using a combination of synth work, Ableton performance and sample manipulation, the Hypnocoustics live act is being regularly developed and road tested at some of the best parties on the circuit.

To date, Hypnocoustics have shared line-ups and stages with artists including Man with No Name, Tristan, Liquid Ross, Mr Peculiar, Andromeda, Vibrasphere, Silicon Sound, Tron, Flooting Grooves and many others; as well as rocking dancefloors in the UK, Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Switzerland and France.

Daniel Lesden has solidified his sound in recent years and is a name that is rapidly rising through the ranks and and is certainly definitely respected by his peers. His music can best be described as atmospheric and melodic, but at same time dancefloor orientated Progressive Psy Trance influenced by his love of the universe and journey of discovery. He has been meticulous in his preparations over the last year for his debut album ‘Chronicles Of The Universe’. With a remix of John 00 Fleming’s forthcoming single already in the pipeline, as well as three new EP’s all to be released on J00F Recording in 2014 the backing of such a powerful label proves Daniel has something special and what can only be described as an explosive journey ahead of him. Described as "A great up and coming psy producer!” by Simon Patterson, he began his professional career in the music scene in 2012 with his first release ‘Contact’ being snapped up by Ovnimoon Records and spent a number of weeks in the ‘Beatport PsyTrance Release 100’, finally holding firm at #7.  A remix of another of the heavyweights of the Psy Trance scene followed this with Ace Ventura’s monumental ‘Presence’, unleashing a moretechie sound on this remix that is certain to smash any dancefloor around the world.

In 2010, Christopher Lawrence and his wife Sara Finlayson debuted their DJ side project 'Mr & Mrs Smith' with a bang playing their dirty, chunky progressive electro. 

The duo played a string of high profile events in Southern California including Giant Club & Monday Social in Los Angeles and Fluxx in San Diego before heading off to Winter Music Conference for a series of shows including the Official IDMA's Afterparty and Judge Jules Radio Sessions at Nikki Beach. 

After a brief hiatus, and two years since Mr & Mrs Smith played their debut set at Burning Man, the pair return to the Playa for this nasty hour of progressive electro. The set was recorded at the Osiris Pyramid on Friday September 2nd.

Dance Valley Festival 2005: One dance, one love, one happiness, one weekend… and 60,000 party people.

In 2005, the Dance Valley festival entered it’s eleventh year. The festival had become the jewel in the crown of the European summer festival circuit, boasting massive and highly produced, themed stage areas, cafés, a campsite with supermarket and even an outdoor cinema. Known as "the Woodstock of Dance”, the festival attracts DJs and fans from around the world.

In 2005, Christopher Lawrence appeared for the first time at Dance Valley. On Friday, Christopher played the Main Stage and returned for an encore performance on Saturday night, headlining the ‘Electro Beats’ Trance Stage.

Christopher Lawrence returned to Dance Valley in 2007 to by host his own arena - Continental, his invited guests included Judge Jules, Blank & Jones, John “00” Fleming and Sean Tyas.

A perennial favorite as the best DJ in the world according to fans as well as the major mixing magazines, Carl Cox has been a part of Britain’s dance scene from the heady days of disco through to the global clubland of the new millennium, with temporary pit stops covering hip-hop, the rare groove movement, and the immense rave revolution of the late ’80s. That large span of time has undoubtedly affected his choice of records, since Cox routinely detours through breakbeat, Italian house, and the dance mainstream during his usual sets of hard techno. Perhaps the best testament to his mixing skills is his immense popularity despite his focus on music much more intense than the brand of arena trance spawned by Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, and others. 

Cox was born in Oldham in 1962, to parents originally from Barbados (they later moved back after he grew up). Cox began DJing family get-togethers at the age of eight, selecting records from his parents’ stack of soul 45s. He was buying his own records soon after, and owned his first pair of turntables at the age of 15. The rest of his teens was spent making spare money at any event he could DJ; though Cox studied electrical engineering in college, he quit after six months and began working various jobs until he could become a full-time DJ. 

Cox had followed the musical trends from disco to rare groove on to hip-hop during the late ’70s and early ’80s, but the introduction of house into Britain during the middle part of the decade convinced him that he had found his niche. After moving to Brighton in 1986, his reputation bloomed during the acid house explosion of 1988-1989; Cox played the opening night at Shoom, one of the defining club nights of Britain’s house revolution (as well as other legendary hot spots like Land of Oz and Spectrum). In front of 15,000 at the 1989 open-air event Sunrise, he unveiled his use of three decks on the mix; that signature technique built him into one of the top DJs of the late ’80s and early ’90s. 

By 1992 Cox had signed an unheard-of long-term production deal with Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Records and hit number 23 on the British charts with his debut single, “I Want You (Forever).” His second single, “Does It Feel Good to You,” also reached the Top 40, and he quickly diversified by setting up his own record label (Worldwide Ultimatum) and an international DJ agency (Ultimate). The onset of a more hardcore rave sound (and the fact that he was increasingly becoming pigeonholed within it) forced Cox to spend several years reestablishing his niche. In a bit of irony, commercial successes like Cox’s own steered him away from high-BPM candy-core and toward the still soulful house and techno scene. 

Three years after his hit singles, Cox returned with the first volume in what became a genre-defining mix compilation series, F.A.C.T.: Future Alliance of Communications and Tecknology. After the first volume dropped in 1995, surprisingly high sales figures earned a second two years later (released in America as well). One year later, Cox released his first studio full-length with 1996’s At the End of the Cliché. Mix album The Sound of Ultimate B.A.S.E. followed in 1998, with another studio album, Phuture 2000, appearing in 1999. One year later, he released the self-explanatory Mixed Live, recorded at Chicago’s Crobar. A second edition of Mixed Live appeared two years later along with the mix CD Global. The DJ’s next busy year was 2004 with the Pure Intec mix CD appearing in August and Cox’s entry in the Back to Mine series dropping in November. Christopher Lawrence attended the 25th Anniversary of the Winter Music Conference in Miami in 2010, where he played a record number of shows including Judgement Sundays, AM Only’s ‘One Night Only’, Judge Jules Radio Sessions at Nikki Beach and the IDMA’s Afterparty.

We recorded the first hour of Christopher’s set at Judgement Sundays  at La Folie D'Amour in South Beach.

Christopher joined the line up of Judgement Sundays as it celebrated its 10th year of being Ibiza's busiest night with a special Miami WMC party featuring resident Judge Jules, Sean Tyas and Second Sun.

This was a fantastic night with industry A-listers and fans coming together to enjoy one of the best trance line ups of the Conference.

Live at Judgement Sundays WMC (2010)

In September 2010, Christopher Lawrence travelled to Argentina for a tour which included shows at Pacha in Buenos Aires and Infierno in Cordoba. 

Pacha in Buenos Aires is one of the worlds most respected clubs where the crowds passion for music keeps them dancing well beyond dawn. 

Christopher Lawrence’s signature brand of trance has found a loyal audience here, with successive sold out shows at Pacha, along with headline slots the South American Music Festival. His reputation and popularity has made him a favorite in Argentina and he now considers the country “a home away from home!"

This months guest mix comes from Scotland’s Allen & Envy.

With over 20 years combined live performance experience, a host of high profile releases individually and DJ support that most only dream of, two is most certainly better than one.
