It was a privilege to be mixing for DI FM's 22nd birthday celebrations, that too on the closing slot, at the bequest of the Director, and a dear friend.

Be prepared for some excessive looping, as it was in the unprepared moment of letting the raw energy do justice to the occasion.

DI FM - 22nd Birthday Celebrations

The most influential figures don’t always get the credit they fully deserve – such as bridging the movement of techno from Detroit to Amsterdam. That is our next guest, who marks the end of another series year of Curating, as we go into Year 3. 

He began his journey from a very early age and was soon competing in many DJing/scratching competitions – winning many of the Dutch ones and ranking in the top 10s on the international circuit.

His drumming background only allured him further to dive into the universe of production and from the late 80s, he began releasing under various monikers to showcase his different flavours.

It wasn’t long till he came in notice of Juan Atkins and they got on famously, to produce some extraordinary records. Consequentially, he soon found himself on Kevin Saunderson’s radar too. 

He can boast multiple record labels and aliases till date. Some which you might recognise, including: Balance; Basic Bastard; Complex; Defence; Dope Dog; Fix; Fixomatic; Format; Frequency; Galaxy; The Judge; Limited Edition; Living Room; Maniax Traxxx; Mute; The Nighttripper; PB 2000; Playboy; Progress; Solar; The Stalker; Tank; Trigger; Ultra; Urban; Nature; X-IT; Blak Presidents; Designer Loops; Ghetto Brothers; OBGB; and, Inifiniti.

So for the first mix of our 3rd year of Curating, they're back on Chronicles, and we wouldn't have it any other way - the Grandbrothers!

And this time, we showcase their latest album from mid April, 'Late Reflections'.

The team of Erol Sarp & Lukas Vogel, seamlessly sync their love for the grand piano and mechanical apparatus to push boundaries of their philharmonic appetite - a contrasting journey using their favourite instrument only - the grand piano. 

Their 4th album, has been christened as, 'Late Reflections' and rightfully so. The album was recorded over a series of nights last summer, in Cologne Cathedral. And the soundscapes they showcase are most acoustically befitting of the majestic venue.

Despite the album not even being a month old, they never fail to amaze us, combining the accuracy of the machine and the beauty of human imperfection. And now you can hear it too.

So without further ado, allow us to present to you, the first curation of our series 3rd year, with my friends – The Grandbrothers!

Our next guest, for our summer special, has been once dubbed as the “Best American DJ” at the IDMAs. He’s also been anointed as ‘A trailblazer’, and, “One of America’s most influential DJs” by DJ Mag. Along with having been on the top 100 rankings multiple times. Such accreditation is a testament to his legacy, which is still being relentlessly shaped as one of the Champions of the Underground.

His continuous innovation has rightfully earned him outspoken support over his 2 decades career, from fans and the industry alike – pushing boundaries in the realms of tech and psytrance in the darkest downtown afterhours venues and the world’s biggest festivals. 

He is not one to shy away from magazine covers; newspaper articles or online press – especially after bring the first DJ to headline all three inaugural tours in America of Cream; Gatecrasher; and, Ministry of Sound.

Not only is he a highly respected Producer and DJ but also a forward thinking trendsetter, as can be regular heard through the releases on his immortal ‘Pharmacy Records’ and his monthly ‘Pharmacy Radio’. 

You don’t stay in the business very long unless you consistently deliver and as a dance music legend with over twenty years in the business, he has done nothing but. He remains on the vanguard of the underground with his tough, high energy sets, cutting edge productions, prolific label and groundbreaking radio show. Along with a legion of hardcore fans, his skills behind the decks and integrity in music has brought him to the attention of a new generation who are discovering the underground for the very first time.
