115. Wake From Sleep (Romans 13:11-14)- Part 2

Jesus is a cosmic Lord. Over creation. Over time. Over space. Over the invisible spiritual realm. But he is also an intimate Lord. He is Lord of our hearts, our very lives. Much of us is comfortable with the Lord is who high and holy and over all things. However when he moves close, we fear the cost. The good news is he gives us a new heart that drives out fear.

Speaking Boldly (Acts 14:1-7)

Paul and Barnabas have fled to Lystra from Iconium and on their way God works mightily through them to heal a crippled man. Instead of seeing this miracle as an act of God, the people of Lystra attribute it to Paul and Barnabas alone. The people deify the apostles, calling them Zeus and Hermes, and even attempt to offer sacrifice on their behalf. Paul and Barnabas respond in lament and plead with the people of Lystra to turn to God. But the people continue to partake in vain things and lack to see that it is God who truly satisfies the heart.

Turning from Vain Things (Acts 14:8-18)

Paul and Barnabas are thick as thieves. They go way back and have forged a deep friendship through a variety of experiences. But a deep friendship is not void of tension. In Acts 15.36-41 Luke records of a "sharp disagreement" between the apostles. What unfolds is not unhealthy division but unified separation rooted in gospel conviction.

Easter Series: Believe – Believing in God (John 4:1-54)

It's six days before Passover and Jesus looks to his impending death. Mary unknowingly prepares him for his burial just before entering into Jerusalem while the people shout "Hosanna!" (give salvation now!). They look forward to an earthly Messiah, but as Jesus articulates the eternal King he is to be and how he must die many are confused and reveal their unbelief.
