For his comeback release on the label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias Raw M.T. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90's E-werk informed analog techno. 'Falling Into Nowhere' with its melancholic xylo drops and Twin Peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on 'Abductions' and 'Essense', in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. Three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.

"Medicine Wheel (The Weight of a New Age)" is a conceptual, auditory piece of world-building set in the Fallout universe circa 2098. The track explores the duality of a post-nuclear society: the emergence of new spiritual, tribal cultures ("Medicine Wheel") and the immense, crushing burden of creating a future from the ashes of the past ("The Weight of a New Age").

The Bobby Donny label hits number four with a first EP of 2016. After efforts from label owner Frits Wentink and Eindhoven producer SAN2, this one comes from Tlim Shug. The low-profile American producer has only one EP to his name so far, but it was an impressive one that came on Echovolt Records last year and suggested he has a passion for moody and lo-fi deep house.

'Rari Techno' is up first and operates in an underground cavern. It sets a sombre tone with its swirling pads and buried deep kicks all obscured by a grainy sheen of dust. That analogue warmth continues with 'Wig $plit' which has a loose and raw percussive line laid over tender piano chords, bumpy drums and a gritty vocal rap. It’s a fresh fusion that will get clubs on their toes before 'Mutuality' again sounds all knackered and broke, scuffed up and imperfect with its squelchy synths, off time hits and stuttering kicks. Last of all 'Overcaste Tune' is another zoned out and moody deep house offering that sounds like L.I.E.S. artist Terekke at his best. This is a brilliantly insular and atmospheric EP that oozes subtle emotion and a cautious sense of optimism.

The latest capsule collection from pensive Vancouver visionist Zefan Sramek aka Precipitation presents a more binary take on overcast  house and half-light ambience, split between a rhythmic “earth”  side  and a smeared cirrus “sky” side. Tracked live to tape and padded with  Pacific Northwest field recordings of rainy forests and wet meadows,  the pieces soar, sink, and spiral like small birds blown by the wind,  isolated and adrift.  Past cuts for Ville Nouvelle (in the duo Aquatic  Language) and Jungle Gym have shown Sramek’s versatility with  vignette  melody and soft-focus atmospherics but Earth / Skydistills  them even further, into a muted, melancholic expanse of elemental  conditions and emotive hypnosis.

Estonian pioneer Raul Saaramets exists in many parallel musical universes and this is reflected in his stellar output as Ajukaja, mining a rich furrow of stand out, oddball yet eminently danceable, groovy house and beat experiments. As the program co-director for Estonia’s national radio station Raadio  2, he’s given his country unprecedented access to some of the hottest music on this planet. He’s also made some of the finest underground dance records over the last few years including ‘Stranger’, ‘Benga Benga’ and “Rare Birds’ (made with long time production partner Andrevski) which were hammered by the scenes elite. His Bergerac debut has been a long time coming but well worth the wait. 

Mhmhmh is a super vibey late night burner which quite obviously gets its title from the faintly Germanic, sleazy vocal sample which goes ‘um hum um hum’. 

Sklad trips you out even more with a mangled, ecstasy tinged fading in(tro) which gives you ‘that’ feeling

Ajukaja puts his disco hat on for side 2 with Ekleeer. A super danceable disco cut rolls out until the vocals drop in and you realise that David Lynch is on the remix. 

Walk previously saw light as a tape only track but it’s playful scuffed up jiggery pokery cried out for a vinyl release so here it is..
